When you think about budget smartphones, you think about some cheap, plasticky, lousy build device that doesn’t run well in the daily situations and let alone in games and multimedia. The dawn of the new age has arrived with ZOPO Hero 2 because this is not that cheap, yesteryear device. We’ve used this phone extensively and took it for a spin through series of our harsh proprietary tests. If you want to see how it performed in those tests as well as being our daigoly driver, stick around and read the rest of our ZOPO Hero 2 Review.
Not only that ZOPO Hero 2 is not your typical affordable smartphone, but it comes with a few surprises in the box as well. First of all, there is a standard equipment included in the box such as USB cable, charger, and obviously, the phone as well as the battery. What delighted us the most was the presence of the headphones inside of the box. Headphones are not standard equipment these days, as they are not included in the box even with some flagship devices.

ZOPO Hero 2 Design and Build quality
Now, this is the part where most manufacturers of other budget devices skimp on build materials but, thankfully, this is not the case with the ZOPO Hero 2. This phone features a modern industrial design as well as sturdy build quality. It is made of polycarbonate and features a metal frame. The smartphone comes in three color variants (black, white, and golden) and each is beautifully unique.
On the front of the device, there is a large 5.5-Inch edge-to-edge screen with a front camera, earpiece, and sensors above, as well as a capacitive button below it. On the top of the device, there are micro USB and 3.5 headphone jack. Volume and power buttons are located on the right side of the device, and they feel great under fingers. The bottom of the ZOPO Hero 2 is where the speaker grill and microphone reside. The back cover is quite grippy, beautifully textured and removable.
Under the hood, you will find a removable battery, 2 SIM card slots, and micro sd card slot. It is a well built and designed phone by any standards.
ZOPO Hero 2 features a 5.5-Inch 2.5D IPS screen with the resolution of 1280×720. Side bezels are nearly non-existent, and it gives the phone some extra scores on looks. Viewing angles are superb as they usually are with this type of displays; colors are punchy, but sunlight legibility is not among the greatest. Resolution is good enough for comfortable reading, web browsing, and multimedia consumption.
Processor and RAM
ZOPO Hero 2 is equipped with MediaTek’s MT6737 Quad-Core 1.3Ghz processor. It also features a Mali T-720MP1 GPU and 1GB of high-speed RAM. This combo is not built for drag racing, but it can provide you with an excellent daily user experience (such as social networking and everything that a modern smartphone should provide) as well the ability to play some graphically moderate games.
ZOPO Hero 2 features an 8-Megapixel sensor on the back and 2-Megapixel on the front. Overall camera quality is nothing special, but it can be decent enough. In good light conditions, it can capture some decent shots with plenty of details. The situation worsens a bit with the low light photography, so we recommend you to use the flash. White balance is usually spot on, but dynamic range is not that good. Luckily, an HDR mode is enabled for this kind of shots. Front snapper is good only for an occasional selfie or video call. The video camera is nothing spectacular, but it too can perform ok in good light conditions.

The device comes with 16GB of onboard storage which is not much in the age of multimedia and apps. Luckily, storage is expandable via micro sd cards of up to 64GB and that should be good enough for most users.
Operating System (OS)
ZOPO Hero 2 comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. In our testing scenarios, the device behaved well and reliable. There was no lags or slowdowns, but that can be attributed to Google’s OS besides ZOPO. Of course, you can install all the latest apps and game titles from the Google Play store or any other Android app store.
ZOPO Hero 2 is a dual SIM phone (micro and nano SIM) and supports up to 4G networks. From the connectivity standpoint it has everything you need, 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS for locating purposes and so on. The only thing that lacks is the NFC support. Signal strength was usually excellent, and we didn’t have a single dropped call.
2G: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900MHz
3G: WCDMA 900 / 2100MHz
4G: FDD-LTE 800 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600MHz
ZOPO Hero 2 Battery life
This device is endowed with a 2300mAh lithium-ion battery. It is not among the largest cells that we’ve tested, but it performed surprisingly well. In our testing scenarios, the battery lasted a full day with Wi-Fi always on, some talking, web browsing as wall as moderate game playing. It is a decent performer overall.
ZOPO Hero 2 offers a plethora of terrific additional features. The multifunctional fingerprint scanner is a great addition to an already rich offering. It is quite fast and reliable, and you can use it to control many functions and apps (like the camera, music app, etc.) on your smartphone. There are several other fresh options like floating video integration and multi-account application, all of them work to enhance the user experience.
