Xiaomi tenders apology after £1 deal gaffe in the UK

Recently, Chinese manufacturing giant, Xiaomi, found its way into the UK. While the company is expected to open its first Mi Store in the country in a few days, Xiaomi organized a £1 deal which turned out to be a disaster. Actually, it wasnt a disaster just that some section of the market was expecting more tha Xiaomi offered. Xiaomi announced a flash sale where it will give 10 units of Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite and Xiaomi Mi A2 at £1. It took one second for this deal to sell out as expected but some felt the company cheated the public.

Xiaomi was reported to the the Advertising Standards Authority, UK’s regulator of advertising, for bad advertisment. A folk delved into some details of the Xiaomi’s UK website code insinuating that the buy button was just a smoke screen and it was programmed to show out of stock as soon as its clicked. Xiaomi UK sales and marketing director, Wilkin Lee explained that thousands of potential buyers clicked the buy button simultaneously thus the system did a random selection against the first come, first serve which was stated in the Terms & Conditions.

The company has since expalined via an official statement that it  “did not realize that the public associates this term with a very particular type of deal that Xiaomi has run in the past across different global markets, where more than 10 devices were available.”.  Xiaomi’s first Authorised Mi Store in the UK will open on November 18th in Westfield, London. The company also cooperates with a couple of stores including Carphone Warehouse. See deals for Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite and Xiaomi Mi A2 below

I have been a strong follower of Android devices since the release of Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Right now, Chinese tech completely fascinates me because they are probably the only manufacturers who tries to merge budget and specs.
