In summer, even with air conditioning, the electric fans are must-have products for homes. Recently, Xiaomi has introduced a 349 yuan Mijia DC fan. So we decided to take a closer look at this product in order to understand whether it is compatible with the much popular 200 yuan models.
The outer packaging uses solid kraft paper to ensure a safe transportation.
Though the fan is dismantled it can be assembled easily.
The kits include fan knobs, fan cover knobs, base bolts, and fan cover screws.
Xiaomi’s products have always been pursuing a minimalist design. This fan is no exception. The base is white and round, without any extra modifications.
To start assembling, put the pillar directly on the base, and then fix it with a screw from the bottom.
The power cord leads from here.
There are 5 rubber feet below the base.
Common electric fans have 3 or 5 leaves. But the Mijia DC fan comes with 7 leaves. The more blades, the more uniform the air flow can be cut, and the air blowing is softer.
The mesh cover can be fixed by rotating, which is simpler than using the buckle.
One thing we like very much on the DC inverter floor fan is that its keys are not placed on the base or on the pillars. They are all located in the nose section, including air volume adjustment, timing shutdown, swing head control, and mode switching. You do not have to bend over when pressing the buttons.
The slewing shaft design is also acceptable because it uses a precision infinitely variable damping shaft. There is no squeaking noise when adjusting the pitching angle. Although the scale is not that big, it is enough for daily use. The left and right swing angles have four positions, including 30°, 60°, 90°, and 120°. In addition, it should be noted that the height of the Mijia DC fan is about 90cm. And it does not support the height adjustment. It may be inconvenient to use in some cases.
After the power is turned on, it is connected to the Mijia APP. Here, it can be seen the Mijia DC fan provides two modes of direct blow and natural wind. The latter is the selling point of our protagonist. It differs from the traditional fans’ natural wind mode. This one is based on real natural wind data and brings the natural wind through a unique algorithm. The UI colors in the natural wind mode and direct blow mode in the APP are green and blue, respectively.
In addition, although this fan uses a four-speed design, because of the use of DC inverter motor, in the APP, it can be freely adjusted between 0-100 rotations, especially for the elderly, children and other people who are particularly sensitive to wind speed.
Due to the DC inverter motor, the Mijia DC fan also has a more prominent performance in noise and function. The following is the relevant data measured in four stalls.
In the end, briefly summing up, in addition to the energy-saving, low-noise advantages of the DC-frequency conversion technology, the Mijia DC fan also has a special mode that truly simulates natural wind. Moreover, it sports an attractive design that is difficult to see at this price point. It also supports linkage control with other smart devices of the Mi family, such as switching through the voice mode through Xiaomi smart speakers, adjusting the wind speed and more.
