Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 vs Xiaomi Mi Pad 3
Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 Specs:
Don’t get me wrong, Mi Pad 2 was a milestone in late 2015 and is still a great tablet, however no OS updates(no thanks to Intel pulling the plug on Android support for their chips) has really hurt the device!
You might notice Quad-Core 2.24Ghz, however that is not true sa 95% of the time the four intel cores don’t go past 1.4GHz!
No celluar connectivity was a really issue with Atom chips, however that will not change as MT8176 offers no celluar modem as well.
Xiaomi Mi Pad 3 Specs:
Immediately you notice the RAM/ROM upgrade along with a better back camera and MIUI 8 with Android 6.0 with Android 7.0 coming in the next few months!
Another noticable difference is the better standby time and much faster CPU speeds along with two extra cores!
Biggest difference, however, is with both chips powering the tablets, now let’s take a detailed look at how both Intel Z8500 and MT8176 compare!
Intel Z8500 vs MT8176 – Chip Battle
Intel’s Z8500 was a much wanted upgade, but besides providing a bit better battery and Graphics, it was a let-down in the CPU department.
Keeping the same architecture and adding a slight clock boost was not what we wanted.
It’s clearly visible in Geekbench with weak single-thread scores.
Graphics intensive games ran OK thanks to the 12 Core Intel GPU inside, but dips below 30fps were visible in high settings.
What does MT8176 Offer to improve that?
MT8176 is an upgrade over MT8173, adding Cortex A72 cores instead of A57.
Improved memory controller and CPU clocks is also noticeable.
Using geekbench to compare with Z8700, there is a noticeable 50% improvement over Z8700!
That’s saying something, since Intel is usually known for great CPU parts, but the newer and higher clocked A72 cores really delivers.
3D performance is a mixed bag though with the high 2K resolution panel proving a bit too much for the dual-cluster PVR G6250 graphics.
Medium and light 3D Gaming runs great, but heavy games on high setting will drop below 30FPS.
Battery life is good, but nothing spectacular, on par with Z8500.
Xiaomi Mi Pad 3 Conclusion – Is it Worth It?
Packing a much better single-thread CPU, better camera and more space along with more RAM Xiaomi Mi Pad 3 is a worthy upgrade over Mi Pad 2!
You should definitely consider getting one if you have Mi Pad 2 or you’re searching for a new good tablet!
