The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is a smaller version of the Xiaomi Mi 8. Its goal is clearly to offer a good price/quality ratio. The mission is rather successful, despite some annoying details.
Design & Appearnace
The display is almost bezel-less, with rounded corners; the volume and power buttons on the right, the SIM slot on the left, on the bottom is the speaker and USB Type-C, on top is the microphone. Dual camera, flash, and fingerprint scanner are on the back. Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite feels firmly and securely in hands, the finger lies exactly on the fingerprint scanner, without touching the lenses and other erogenous zones.
The case of the smartphone is metal on the perimeter, the front and rear is glass. The most interesting is traditionally the back side, controlled by a dual-sided artificial intelligence camera, a light-emitting diode and a fingerprint reader that is really fast. The glass back is by its very nature a literal attraction for prints and smudges. The mirror effect of the dirt increases, so I would recommend using the silicone packaging that is included in the package.
Inside, the Snapdragon 660 processor (4 × 2.2 GHz and 4 × 1.8 GHz) coupled with the Adreno 512 graphics chip, which is enough in its class, even for more demanding games such as Asphalt. In AnTuTu Benchmark we scored a score of 139,738 on the average of three tests, which is not a bad result in the middle class. The 64 GB version gets 4 GB of RAM and the larger 128 GB version even gets 6 GB of RAM. The memory is LPDDR4X.
Camera & Battery
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite has a dual photo sensor on the back. The couple in question has a definition of 12 megapixels and 5 megapixels – the second sensor is mainly used to support the first for depth effects and portraits. The quality of the pictures is very satisfactory with very beautiful colors when the good light conditions are met.
Selfies also benefit from good quality thanks to an effective 24-megapixel front sensor. The details of the face are well saved. At least in the majority of cases. Depending on how the sun caresses your face, some parts of your faces can be easily overexposed or underexposed.
This picks up on the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite and can after all offer a battery capacity of 3,350 mAh, which is a pretty good average value. The manufacturer’s own operating system also manages to tickle the maximum battery life out of this battery. The battery is also rechargeable with Quick Charge 3.0, which guarantees a fast charge time and you will never have to spend a lot of time without your smartphone.
Out of the box, Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite runs on Android 8.1 with the MIUI 10. The interface, colors, rounded icons, functionality – everything is nice. Navigation in the style of iOS with swipe control from the bottom and from the side; although the abrupt animation of the application manager is unnerving. Everything’s standard for Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. 3G/4G, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi ac dual-band, GPS/AGPS/GLONASS/BDS. There is USB Type-C, version 3.1. It would be nice to stand out from the competition with NFC, but no luck. Same goes for IrDA.
The design of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is very convenient. The quality of the slab is very satisfactory. The double camera does a great job when the right conditions are met and even when the challenges encountered remain quite moderate. Portraits and selfies also benefit from good quality.
