The Mi 5S and Mi 5S Plus has officially gone on sales and the guys at IT168 have already got down to business, doing what they know how to do best, dismantling new smartphones and gadgets. The Xiaomi Mi 5S TearDown at least serves as a guide to opening up the device incase there’s any repairs to be conducted but if you haven’t got the expertise it probably would be a good idea if you don’t try this at home.
Just to refresh our memories before diving into the tear down, the Xiaomi Mi 5S comes witha 5.15-inch Full HD display with s 2.5D curved glass on top. The smartphone also comes in gray, silver, gold and rose gold colors, though the gray colored variant gets the teardown treatment. There are two memory version, one with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage and another with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage which is the one we’ll be seeing on the tear down. Xiaomi did well in throwing in an Under Glass Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor, Mi-Pay support thanks to NFC connectivity and the Mi 5S is quite a powerhouse here with the Snapdragon 821 processor firing things up.
The innovative, new technologies on the Mi 5S also includes a 3D Touch pressure sensitive display, custom bright display, a non-removable 3200mAh battery, Sony IMX378 sensor which is quite huge as well as the other components. Xiaomi had to sacrifice the infrared and optical image stabilization technology on this one but that is of little relevance.
The battery isn’t non-removable after all, held in place just by a single extending rubber.
The tear-down begins, the device’s non-removable back cover is held in place by just two screws and unscrewing the cover reveals all the internal components.
