Amazing!!! Five Years Old Xiaomi Mi 2/2S To Get MIUI 9 Update

There is so much anticipation concerning the upcoming MIUI 9 OS. Xiaomi has set a good target for the new OS and it is believed that it will be more fluid, stronger and more stable. The hottest debate, right now, is “Which Xiaomi smartphone will receive MIUI 9 update?” A few days ago, I reported that upon release, only Xiaomi MI 6 will get MIUI 9 first experience. That has not changed, however, there is currently a shocking news concerning MIUI 9.

Xiaomi Mi 2/2S to get MIUI 9 Update

Today, an MIUI official took to his Weibo page and hinted that five years old Xiaomi Mi 2/2S will receive MIUI 9 update. MIUI market deputy director @Huang Long confirmed this news but also stated that it will not be given high priority. @Huang Long added that the addition of Xiaomi MI 2/2S to MIUI 9 plan was a late decision but it will definitely come.

What we know for now is that flagship Xiaomi Mi 6 will be the first to receive MIUI 9 update. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X (high version) would follow as the second batch while the aged Xiaomi Mi 2/2S will come in the third installment.  In addition, MIUI project manager stated that MIUI 10 may not be suitable for Xiaomi Mi 2/2S.  In any case, updating a five years old mobile phone system shows that Xiaomi has a conscience to keep its smartphones alive.

This decision to update the Xiaomi Mi 2/2S may not be unconnected with the recent announcement by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun who said that close to 500 million people still use Xiaomi Mi 2/2S. His announcement sparked curiosity amongst fans who then asked if MIUI 9 will be suitable for Xiaomi Mi 2/2S since it still got a large user base. Subsequently, an MIUI official responded with one word “MUST”. This shows that this five years old smartphone is getting MIUI 9 update. For a five years old smartphone to get the latest operating system is what can be best described as “industry conscience”

I have been a strong follower of Android devices since the release of Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Right now, Chinese tech completely fascinates me because they are probably the only manufacturers who tries to merge budget and specs.

  1. Industry conscience? Then why the hell won’t the one year old Redmi Pro get the update? Sounds a little dodgy to me!

      1. Exactly my point. Everywhere I look says that the Redmi Pro won’t be getting the MIUI 9 update, and yet phones that are several years old are getting it!
