This past year, the smartphone market in China was led by the popular brands of Xiaomi, Huawei, OPPO, and Vivo, and industry experts believe that these four companies will be able to maintain this strong leadership throughout the years.
This year, users expect these companies to be among the four main smartphone providers in China thanks to their marketing strategy, which is based on presenting to the public worldwide devices of the medium and high ranges. These four companies have contributed more than 80 percent of the shipments of smartphones that have left the Chinese market last year and, therefore, can easily be placed on the list of the 10 best smartphone brands in the world.
Xiaomi, Huawei, OPPO and Vivo are the most popular companies in China
On the other hand, brands that are in a second level, as well as Gionee and Smartisan, together with international brands such as Samsung, ASUS and HTC, will continue to have difficulties in China due to the predominance of the companies mentioned above.
According to Digitimes Research, it is expected that each of the four leading smartphone companies, Xiaomi, Samsung, Apple, and Huawei, will achieve around 100 million shipments, placing them at the top of the list of the main brands of smartphones this year. That being said, OPPO and Vivo may slow their production a bit in this 2019, achieving shipments of 90 million and 70 million units respectively; even so, it is likely that both brands continue to have a lot of popularity all around the Chinese country.
Now, speaking about the information that has emerged about the supply chain, Digitimes Research has reported that global shipments of smartphones may not exceed the milestone of 1,500 million in this 2019. One of the many reasons behind this is that the 5G technology has not managed to obtain a presence so large as to be installed in the new devices launched into the market, so it has not yet been possible to develop an ecosystem for smartphones with intelligent functions coming from this technology.
Global shipments of smart devices in the future
Having said that, it is expected that the commercial operations of 5G networks will begin to gain strength in 2020. This may be the catalyst for users to replace their phones for smartphones with 5G capacity and, in addition, also emerging markets are expected to experience a significant increase in smartphone sales. With regard to global shipments, it is possible that by 2020 they will manage to sell around 1.500 million units and, finally, in 2023, global shipments of smartphones could reach 1.7 billion units.
