When the whole concept of TWS came into play, I was actually driven by the possibilities that we can achieve or experience using a completely or Truly Wireless Earbuds. Back then the option was narrowed down to just Apple Airpods but things changed. Today we have already two great products from Xiaomi, the previous generation Xiaomi AirDots and the very recently released Xiaomi AirDots Pro. Cut-Short: this article is all about: Xiaomi AirDots Pro vs Xiaomi AirDots!
Personally, I hated the way the Apple Airpods looked, which eventually lead me to wait for other manufacturers to come out with better designs. I’m a huge fan of minimalism and when I first saw the Xiaomi AirDots, I totally fell in love with the way it looked. Completely white and minimal but then a few months later we are back again with another rip-off of the Apple Airpods: the Xiaomi AirDots Pro. Keeping the design aside, let’s find out whether the Mi AirDots Pro is actually a worthy upgrade or not?
Mi AirDots vs Mi AirDots Pro
Audio Quality: Any Improvement on the Xiaomi AirDots Pro?
When the Xiaomi AirDots was first introduced, I was pretty sceptical about the audio quality but to my surprise, the audio was really good considering the price-tag. Actually, to be more precise, the Mi AirDots performed much better than what I expected in terms of Audio Quality.
When compared to the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro, the Mi AirDots kind of had problems with highs which were more noticeably shallow. Undoubtedly Xiaomi has worked on the bass and depth with its all-new AirDots Pro. You can actually feel and experience improved bass on the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro.
When comparing the audio quality of the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro and the Mi AirDots after using them for a while, the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro has a much more enriched and lively audio experience. The choice the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro gives its users to control the levels of bass and treble helps to satisfy all kinds of users. Such an option helps the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro to cater to a much more versatile range of users who may not like the heavy levels of bass provided by the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro.
Design: Which is a better looking TWS?
When it comes to design. I somewhat find both the Xiaomi AirDots and the Xiaomi AirDots Pro to be super weird. Considering I already hated the AirPods design, I would incline towards the Xiaomi AirDots when considering which on overall, is a better-looking device.
Although the AirPods design pattern is not something of my taste, technically the design adds more advantage. Like the receiver being more efficient by been more closer to the mouth. The Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro comes with a pointed silicone tip. While that is not the case with the regular Xiaomi AirDots. The pointed silicone tip actually improves on the noise cancellation than the AirDots. If you look closer, you can also find that the nozzles on the earbuds tip is angled and are also elongated to a perfect length. This provides a tighter fit to your ears.
Usually, I’m a huge fan of TWS Earbuds as they eliminate all unwanted wiring leading to a hassle-free music experience. To my surprise, both the AirDots and the AirDots Pro are a great choice of comfort and are extremely lightweight. Technically the Xiaomi AirDots Pro is almost 11.6g while the Xiaomi AirDots is just 4.2g. Most of the time I didn’t even feel that I was wearing the Mi AirDots as it is super lightweight.
Battery: Which is the longer lasting TWS?
Battery life is one of the major concerns I used to have before buying a product of any sort. If the battery life was good enough and did it charge quickly to match the battery life it gave, was one specification that I always kept an eye out of to know it didn’t disappoint.
The Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro has one of the largest battery life for a TWS in the market. Serving a music playback time of a massive 10 hours, it is one of the longest lasting earphones in the market at the moment. It is a huge improvement from the 3 hours given by its predecessor Xiaomi Mi AirDots. The best part about this is that it charges up way faster than expected. Within an hour of rest in its charging case, the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro is good to get back again.
A characteristic feature of both the Mi AirDots and the Mi AirDots is that the earphones automatically detects when one of the earphones is removed and it switches to a monaraul output. While this is a boon on the audio quality, its effect is actually seen in terms of battery life. If only one of the earphones is used, the battery life of the Mi AirDots Pro increases by 2 hours, when compared to the increase of the Mi AirDots of 1 hour.
Sports: Which is more fitted for the move?
Two of the important aspects to know before going for a run with any TWS is the water resistant certification the earphone has along with the comfort when worn. In terms of comfort, both the Mi AirDots and the Mi AirDots Pro give a neck and neck fight. But when it comes to the water resistance, the Mi AirDots Pro is more suitable with its IPX4 rating.
Verdict: Eventually worth the shift?
The Mi AirDots Pro has a bump in the price when compared to the Mi AirDots, but the question of whether the upgrade is valuable enough, I’m sure that it would be worth every penny shelled out on it.
