The VIVO NEX has become a real gift for geeks. We have managed to get our hands on it and provide a detailed review. Plus, we also compared it with another phone from the future, the OPPO Find X. Seems we have done all the experiments with it. But one thing still remains undone. It has two color options named diamond black and ruby red. And we haven’t put them next to each other. Now, we are going to do that through the photos provided by our friends at ITHome.

At the same time, the black version is the VIVO NEX S (Ultimate Edition). Thus, it’s the enhanced version that comes with an on-screen fingerprint scanner and a Snapdragon 845 chip. The red model is the VIVO NEX A (Standard Edition), which is equipped with a Snapdragon 710 SoC and rear-mounted regular fingerprint reader. So we can take it as a comparison of the standard and flagship versions.
When looking at the phones from the front, you won’t notice any differences. Both come with a genuine full-screen that also adopt a very high screen ratio. But as the VIVO NEX A uses a rear fingerprint scanner, its unity is slightly inferior.
However, the diamond black variant of the VIVO NEX S uses a nano-laser engraving process, and tens of thousands of optical refraction surfaces are engraved on the back cover of the phone. Due to them, the color changes according to the light angle. On the contrary, the ruby red version uses a microcrystalline technology to laminate the crystallized glass on the surface of the back cover of the fuselage. It provides an identical effect. The black symbolizes the universe, while the red color refers to the individuality. At least, the manufacturer treats it in this way.
The VIVO NEX is packed with a 12MP (f/1.79, IMX363 sensor) + 5MP (f/2.4) dual-camera with a large pixel unit size of 1.4 microns, 4-axis optical image stabilization support, full-pixel dual-core speed focus, AI scene recognition + AI filter.
Of course, one of the most important highlights of this phone is its high-ratio screen. The VIVO NEX sports a 6.59-inch OLED with an aspect ratio of 19.3:9 and a screen ratio of 91.24%. In addition to this stunning screen, another highlight of the phone is the lifting front camera. In terms of configuration, this front camera has a resolution of 8MP and supports AI beauty. VIVO officially said that the side thrust of the camera can bear more than 45kg.
The frame thickness of both phones is 7.98mm, which is a little thicker than the 7.37mm of the VIVO X21. However, considering the 4000mAh battery, it is completely acceptable.
In addition, there is a detail, the connection between the VIVO NEX fuselage middle frame and the front 2.5D glass panel is a direct transition, without adding a plastic buffer layer, which improves the overall sense of design and workmanship and exquisiteness of the whole machine. But there is a slight handle at the middle and rear glass cover. So we have to state there is room for optimization in this transition.
Finally, these handsets weigh 203g each. It is not too light. But after all, when recalling their 6.59-inch screen and a 4000mAh battery, this weight can be understood.
