The Umidigi F1 is an amazing smartphone which combines upper-middle-class hardware with a powerful 5000mAh battery. The aim of the young smartphone manufacturer is, as always, to make the currently best middle-class phone on its feet. In the following, you will learn what the smartphone has to offer in detail and whether the hardware meets the demand.
Design & Display
The Umidigi F1 will have a 6.3-inch display and will undoubtedly be one of the larger smartphones. With dimensions of 156 x 74 x 8.8 mm, the phone is still kept as compact as possible, which is largely due to the Notch and the thin display edges. The display has – typical for the upper middle class – a full HD + resolution of 2340 * 1080 pixels and is in 19: 9 formatted. Thus, the smartphone should be properly positioned at least in terms of pixel density. The imaging technique used in the F1 is classic IPS, which should bring natural colors and good viewing angle stability. AMOLED panels are still relatively rare among smaller manufacturers like Umidigi, but we do not rate that as a disadvantage. Even an IPS display can deliver a very nice picture.
A special feature on the display of the Umidigi F1 is that the Notch is held in the form of a drop of water and thus takes up little space for itself. A similar design we already know from the OnePlus 6T and Xiaomi also follows this new design trend in the new Mi Play and the Redmi 7. Of course, the F1 has still a recess in the display and acts on the front not as tidy as the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 or the Vivo Nex , a refreshingly different design is the Waterdrop-Notch anyway. As far as the materials used are concerned, the Umidigi F1 will be placed on a metal housing. We think it’s good that the manufacturer here opposes the current trend towards glass backs. However, the smartphone will therefore not support wireless charging. But what you get for it is the good old 3.5mm headphone jack, which is gradually dying out. In addition, at the bottom of a modern USB C connector can be found. The weight is 186g in midfield.
The Umidigi will be one of the first smartphones ever to have the Helio P60 processor from Mediatek on board. This CPU is also found in the Umidigi Z1 Pro. The Helio P60 works with four Cortex-A73 cores up to 2.0GHz in the power cluster and four Cortex A-53 cores up to 2.0GHz in the power-saving cluster. The graphics unit is an ARM Mali G72 with 800 MHz clock frequency. The memory is also lush with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory. Should Umidigi take system optimization seriously, we expect a smartphone with good performance for daily use. As a system, Android 9 Pie be used. So users do not have to worry about updating to the latest version of Android, but if the smartphone works without bugs and bugs, we need to check it first in the detailed review. This also applies to the cameras of the UMIDIGI F1.
Battery and connectivity The battery of the Umidigi F1 will deliver a really decent capacity with 5100mAh. With proper system optimization, the Umidigi F1 will be able to easily use 2-3 days without reloading. The charging process should not take too long, thanks to the Mediatek Pump Express. Another strength of the Umidigi F1 are the supported network frequencies.
In addition to a gyroscope and e-compass NFC is also on board. As always two SIM cards can be inserted into the smartphone at the same time (dual SIM). If you also want to expand the 128 GB memory, you can use one of the SIM slots for a Micro SD.
