UMi Rome X: The Younger Brother of UMi Rome for $50

Recently, we argued about the UMi Rome, a perfect mid-tier terminal for an affordable price of just $90. If, you think that is surprising, then surely you don’t know about the release of new UMi Rome X. Well, UMi Rome X is the younger brother of Rome, you can say it as the mini version.

For UMI, providing a phone with Octa-core processor, metal construction and 3 GB of RAM under $100 is not a big deal. But, how about the same phone with same specs but less power at an incredible price of $50? A dream, which we’ll think can’t be true. Thus, UMi took this as a challenge and invented UMi Rome X, the world’s cheapest metal phone.

UMi Rome X: Same Chassis, Same Cameras, Less performance

The history of UMi Rome X is not too complicated because we have an identical chassis to the model without the tagline X. A whole metal body, an aluminum chassis with 2.5D edges on the back looks simply perfect. This chassis still further wraps a 5.5-inch screen LTPS (no AMOLED this time) with a discrete HD resolution 1280 * 720 pixels (267 ppi). We have the same thickness of 7.9 mm.

While talking about photography, both cameras of UMi Rome X are same as the previous model. For your information, the rear camera is still 13 Mp (interpolated) but in actual is 8 MP. The sensor embedded in this phone is Sony IMX179 with double flash. Meanwhile, the front one is 2 MP (nothing special about it, so better not to discuss).

The twist comes inside the UMi Rome X when we bring hardware and connectivity under the spotlight. This is where we lose the interest. The heart of the phone is MediaTek MT6580 Soc packed with @ 1.30 GHz Cortex cores consisting of 4 A-7 @ 1.30 GHz. The SoC is supported by 1 GB of RAM (a humble GB).  It also suffered cuts in the storage capacity, which is 8 GB but luckily it is expandable through a Micro-SD card.

Other specs include the 2500 mAh in the original model. Due to the less power consumption of the 1 GB RAM, Half HD display, and Quad Core processor, the phone will continue to run for more hours as compared to the original one. And the operating system is solely Android Lollipop (v 5.1.1). According to UMi the updates to Marshmallow v 6.0 will be available at the start of 2016.

In short UMi Rome X is a mid-way between low-end and high-end terminal. Although, the specs are a little bit different and low from the original UMi Rome. But, these features are the best when it comes to the price tag of $50. No phone can dare to compete with it in under $50 category.

The UMi Rome X will be available for booking from next January 11. We will inform to your readers including the price and availability. So, stay tuned…
