Tanix TX8 TV Box Review

The Tanix TX8 TV Box is an Android Marshmallow TV Box recently added to the list of the creations by the company, Tanix. The Tanix TX8 sports a lot of improvement from the previous products sold by the company. Luckily, it comes with the not so latest version of Android, Android 6.0 Marshmallow which makes it a better device than some other TV boxes in the same price category with it. Also featured in this device is the Amlogic S9112 CPU and a high-performance 64-bit chipset that sports a maximum clock speed of 1.5GHz.

Released in September 2016, the Tanix TX8 TV Box takes entertainment to a whole new level. With support for a lot of pre-installed software and the presence of the Google Play Store app via which users can easily install more applications, hardware and ports have equally been made available for ease of use.

The Tanix TX8 TV Box comes packaged in a white square shaped box. On the top of the box, some of the features of this device are displayed. Opening up the box, you are greeted with a piece of the Tanix TX8 in a white transparent packaging material and in a compartment of its own which is the first layer.

Pulling out the first layer, you see the accessories that accompany this device. The first is a power adapter, usually sent in order to suit your country’s specifications. Also included here is a remote controller, an HDMI cable and a user manual.

The Tanix TX8 TV Box comes with a sort of automatic power on/off mode. There are no buttons for powering this device on or off, so once you’re done using it and shut off your TV, your PC or any other device you use with this, it goes into sleep mode until the next time you intend to use it.

The Tanix TX8 TV Box sports the currently available and most widely used version of the Android operating system which is Android Marshmallow 6.0. Its CPU is the Amlogic S912 Octa-core with ARM Cortex-A53 CPU and a processing speed of up to 2GHz (DVFS).

Also on the SoC, it has an ARM Mali-T820MP3 GPU with a speed of up to 750MHz (DVFS). The RAM size of this device is 2GB DDR3 while the ROM is 32GB with an EMMC file storage system. It equally supports the use of an extended storage of between 1 and 32GB.

For the purpose of communication, internet connection and file sharing, the manufacturers of the Tanix TX8 TV Box have fitted it with Wi-Fi Connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0 technology and Ethernet. If you are using this device, you can easily browse the internet, update apps via the Google Play Store and take advantage of this device’s numerous software applications.

The Tanix TX8 TV Box has been designed to be as compact and lightweight as possible. This device has a square shape, while at the edges it has been given a round finish. The colour version I’m reviewing is the black one, and I’m not sure if there are any other colour versions. Mine came in a black colour with silver bezels running around it. By the right side of the TV Box, there are three USB ports and one TF storage space for connecting it to another device. It supports TF cards with storage capacities ranging from 1 GB to 32 GB.

The top side of the Tanix TX8 TV Box features 4 ports which are the Power DC adapter port, the 3.5 Phone AV out CVBS&L/R output port, an HDMI 2.0 output port and an SPDIF output port.

Software and Applications

The TX8 TV Box comes pre-installed with the KODI TV app. Through this, users can access a number of TV channels and watch their favourite TV programs. Also on this device is the YouTube app which might need an upgrade before being available for use. Connect to your TV, or PC device, connect to your Wi-Fi and stream videos at ease.

The Google Play Store app is another important app that comes pre-installed on this device. While still connected to your Wi-Fi network, you can easily install any apps of your choice from the Store or make upgrades to existing apps.

Through the Settings tab, you can easily make some changes to the previously enabled settings on this device. You can adjust the time, same as date settings, audio, display, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, HDR settings, etc.

Audio, Pictures and Video Support

The Tanix TX8 TV Box supports a wide range of video, audio and picture formats. For videos, supported formats include MKV, WMV, MPG, MPEG, MOV, DAT, AVI, MP4, RM, etc.

In the same vein, supported Audio formats includes RM, WMA, OGG, MP3, FLAC, and AAC. Picture formats supported by this device include TIFF, BMP. HD JPEG, PNG.

Display and Performance

The display quality of this TV box is neat and crystal clear. It sports a 4k resolution which is currently the latest when it comes to media resolutions (on TV Boxes, that is). Its minimum resolution is 3,840 pixels wide and 2,160 pixels high. This is the equivalent of about two screens of 1, 080 pixels in height and two in length.

The Tanix TX8 TV box delivers a flawless performance as you can easily navigate through the plethora of apps and its settings menu without getting hooked along the line.

Pros

  • The Tanix TX8 TV Box comes with the 2nd to the latest Android operating systems currently available, the latest being the Android Nougat 7.0 which is yet to get to a lot of devices. This is a plus as far as operating systems are being considered.
  • It’s S912 CPU which is a high-performance 64bit chipset is popularly known for a maximum clock speed of about 1.5GHz. With this, you can easily install and make use of a lot of apps and games on your device.
  • Considering that it is fitted with a 4k resolution in order to enhance video display, applications and pictures as well.
  • The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology pre-installed on this device also make it quite easy to use.

Cons

  • So far, the only demerit noticed here is the absence of an AV in/out cable which some other boxes come with. This cable can, however, be purchased at a price next to nothing.

Conclusion

The Tanix TX8 Box is a powerful TV Box device that brings a lot of advantages to its users. The price is not to be left out, as this TV box could be gotten at about $75 on a number of online marketplaces.
