Packaging

Sunvell T95Z Plus Build

The Sunvell T95Z Plus is packaged like other TV Boxes in the Sunvell series. The packaging box comes with the following:

  • Sunvell T95Z Plus TV Box.
  • Remote Control.
  • HDMI Cable. (1 piece).
  • Power Adapter (1 piece).
  • User Manual (in English Language).

Design

Sunvell T95Z Plus Design

The first thing that will capture your eye is its hexagonal design, with its honeycomb pattern textured top and a slick colorful line round its width. It makes a pleasant sight to behold.

Underneath the box you have some vents and four ant skid studs, and that’s a plus because some manufacturers have forgotten the need for the good old anti skid studs, while some just put the heat vent by the sides close to some ports.  But as we all know, aesthetics can never take the place of performance, satisfaction or price.

Hardware

Sunvell T95Z Plus Hardware

Powering the Sunvell T95Z TV Box inside is an Amlogic S912 octa-core ARM Cortex A53 processor with a processing speed of up to 1.5GHz. This is assisted by a ARM Mali-820MP3 GPU with a speed of up to 750MHz which is a decent configuration and can play virtually anything thrown at it.

The Sunvell T95Z Plus TV Box also comes with a 2GB DDR3 RAM capacity which will ensure smooth multi-tasking, though I find it strange that people would want to multi-task on a TV (who does that?!). A rather typical eMMC 16GB Flash is present on board for storage and there is provision for SD card extension up to 32GB, which to me is poor considering the fact that we have ultra-big file sizes for 1080p movies. So one stands to wonder how many movies can we fit on it. If you had plans of downloading several episodes of your favorite TV show in HD and binge watch over the weekend, well you might have to rethink on that.

It also has 4K ability which means it can handle H.265 video decoding and can play full HD (1080p) files.

Connectivity

Sunvell T95Z Plus Connectivity

The Sunvell T95Z Plus TV Box comes with a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) 2.0 port which takes care of the audio and video needs. It supports Bluetooth 4.0 wireless connectivity, has two USB 2.0 ports along with a dual band WiFi capacity for fast wireless internet surfing and file transfers.

Sunvell T95Z Plus Connectivity

The dual band WiFi feature of the Sunvell T95Z Plus TV Box makes it stand out as it can work seamlessly in a,b,g,n and ac classifications of the 802.11 standard. In plain English, this TV box can use a 5.0GHz spectrum if available, which is a good thing as our homes are already pretty saturated with devices using the 2.4GHz spectrum.

Sunvell T95Z Plus Connectivity

As I stated earlier, there is an SD card slot and a standard Ethernet port for 10/100M connections.

Software

Sunvell T95Z Plus Software

The Sunvell T95Z Plus TV Box comes with Android 6.0 preinstalled, which is pretty decent, though no word has been heard from the manufacturer with regards to upgrade to the new Android N. The TV box also comes with KODI 17.0 preinstalled, which takes out the stress in having to sideload the software.

Pros

  • KODI 17.0
  • Amlogic S912 chipset
  • Dual band WiFi
  • Unique Design.

Cons

  • Small storage capacity.

Conclusion

After all said and done, I think Sunvell has made a decent Android TV Box with a unique design and some much needed innovation like the dual band WiFi. This is a device that begs to be owned and enjoyed.

  1. Bought from gearbest a couple weeks ago and when I try to start fresh with kodi so I can only have the addons I want it eventually redownloads all the preloaded addons. Kinda pissed off.

  2. How about Netflix and Spotify? I used to have one of the Android TV Box from GearBest. Nexflix has audio/video sync problem and lags, spotify lags and breaks some time. Any issues for that device? Is it worth to buy? Honestly, these two things are interesting me mostly.

    1. Make sure you tv is newer and isn’t HDMI 1.3 and doesn’t require the HDMI signal to be RGB only
