A long time has passed since Xiaomi presented its last tablet, but today this product range is back. The Chinese company has just presented the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 and Mi Pad 5 Pro, two tablets reminiscent of the iPad Pro in terms of design and that come to compete in a segment that many manufacturers have already abandoned.
Display:
The device mounts an 11-inch LCD screen with 2.5K resolution (2,560 x 1,600 inches) and 120 Hz refresh rate and various image technologies, namely HDR10, TrueTone, and Dolby Vision. We will interact with “MIUI for Pad” through it, which seems to be its own interface adapted to tablets in the purest iPadOS style.
The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 weighs 511 grams and is 6.85 mm thick. In that space, Xiaomi has put an 8,720-mAh battery with a 33W fast charge. The Pro model, for its part, mounts an 8,600-mAh battery with a 67W fast charge, weighs 515 grams, and is 6.86 mm thick.
Despite those differences, the screen, which is one of the most important components of a tablet, is exactly the same. Thus, both models share the 11-inch 120 Hz LCD panel with 2.5K resolution, Dolby Vision, HDR10, TrueTone, and 10-bit color that we mentioned before. In addition, a pencil developed by Xiaomi in the style of an Apple Pencil can be used to paint, take notes, etc. (this will be sold separately).
Processsor:
For the processor, Xiaomi has chosen the Snapdragon 860 for the Mi Pad 5 and the Snapdragon 870 for the Mi Pad 5 Pro. They are not Qualcomm’s most powerful processors to date, but they do offer top-of-the-line performance. It is accompanied by 6 GB of RAM (LPDDR4x) in the standard model and six or eight gigs (LPDDR5) in the Pro model. For storage, up to 256 GB UFS 3.1 in both cases.
All this will serve to give life to MIUI for Pad. Xiaomi has not entertained much in this new version of MIUI for tablets, but it has shown that it is an interface adapted to larger screens with functions such as having two applications open at the same time on a split-screen. In addition to the fact that the size is designed for us to use the pencil, of course.
We end up talking about the camera, where there are also important differences. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro mounts a double 13 + 5-megapixel front camera, although it is true that the 5G-compatible model has a 50-megapixel sensor. The standard model, however, mounts a single 13-megapixel camera. The front is eight megapixels in both cases.
