The smartphone market is disputed by dozens of manufacturers who fight for your attention and your money. But it seems that even companies that do not operate in the technology sector also plan to enter this fight. We are talking about Pepsi, well known for his acclaimed soda that rivals facing with Coca-Cola, and now intends to compete with Xiaomi, Huawei, among many other popular Chinese manufacturers.
Users of Weibo, a Chinese network well known as the Asian version of Twitter, found the image below in a website page. As can be seen, we see the name Pepsi Phone next to the logo already known by many. This evidence began to make sense when it was found that that page is recorded in the “IT / Internet / Electronic Products / mobile phone manufactures” in the social network. What makes clear that we are not facing new product just consumption but rather something more technological. What also makes this concrete evidence is that this account is verified (Which is also similar to Twitter’s Verified program)
Does Pepsi would even be interested to launch a smartphone with your name? Facebook has already done this with the Facebook Phone, but in this case, the proposal was to deliver a phone that has its main resources focused on the Facebook social network. In the case of Pepsi, we have no idea what the company’s motivations to invest in a similar product. Not to mention that the product, if there really will not be produced by Pepsi, but for some Chinese manufacturer. A partnership with Xiaomi or Huawei could arise at any moment? Or maybe a re-branded smartphone from an OEM? We have seen this with Micromax, and Indian Smartphone company.
Of course, nothing makes it clear that the name actually refers to the development of a phone, but we may be facing a smartphone application or even service that focuses on bringing the company from its consumers. Nor can we rule out that such an image is an advertising campaign or even promotional that it intends to announce in the coming weeks in China. Many photos showcasing the specs and design of the phone have been leaked out as well. The specs are very promising as you can see, and it seems like Pepsi, even if producing a smartphone, it would be a very well thought-out product and will be a good choice for sure.
As you can see from the photo above, the phone looks very similar to one of HTC’s smartphones. However, it would be interesting to see what Pepsi would do with the phone, and which market it is targeted at. The details, although vague, are very promising. It is reported that the smartphone dubbed, “Pepsi P1”, priced at 1,299 yuan (Around $200 USD), all-metal body, the thickness of 7.7mm, having a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, equipped with 1.7GHz MT6592 processor, 2GB memory + 16GB inbuilt storage, 13 megapixel pixels camera, a 3000mAh battery, dual card dual standby (mobile tri-band), running Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.
