Onda V18 Pro Design and Hardware
We have got our hands on three products – the tablet PC itself, a docking keyboard, and a DIY photo frame. The boxes of the aforementioned products come without too much text description. This is a common practice accepted by top brands. So Onda decided to adopt it as well. Agree, everything is known before buying. And there is no need to ‘overload’ the packaging with useless information.
The Onda V18 Pro uses a space gray metal shell. The company’s logo is printed in the middle, a short information about the product, its name, and the manufacturer are printed on the bottom side, while the upper side that carries a rear camera comes with a darker gray color.
Actually, this tablet PC looks fashionable, but what’s more important it’s great in terms of portability and ergonomics. The housing passes through CNC crafting, which provides a pleasant feeling of touch. The Onda V18 Pro comes with a 9mm thickness and weighs only 576 grams. So you can take it with you everywhere.
The screen is the selling point of this product. It sports 10.1-inch luxury ultra-clear IPS touchscreen with a whopping resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels. This is a Retina-level resolution found only on the best iPad-like models. Its 2.5K resolution screen comes with a 300PPI pixel density, which is a rare thing for tablet PCs from the niche. So we have to state this is the first tablet PC with such a gorgeous screen priced under 1000 yuan ($156).
Surprisingly, there are two cameras. A 2MP shooter is placed above the screen. No need to think about is a low-end sensor. Though its resolution is not attractive, it’s more than enough for a high-quality video call.
On the back, the Onda V18 Pro carries a 5MP camera to take better photos if you want to experience in photography with a tablet PC.)
A 2.5mm DC charging interface is placed on the right hand-side. Thanks to it the 7000mAh high-performance lithium battery can be charged way faster. There is also a USB 2.0/OTG port to plug peripherals.
The opposite side carries a TF card slot to expand the memory up to 256GB, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a speaker.
The power button along with the volume rocker is on the top.
And the bottom line carries a magnetic interface to connect the docking keyboard.
Onda V18 Pro Keyboard
The dedicated keyboard doesn’t come inside the box. You have to buy it separately. But if you want to turn it into a full-featured laptop, you have to do that.
It is space gray, while the keycap is black. The keys and the touchpad are made using a matte process. So it’s a pleasure to type and work on this keyboard.
Moreover, each side of the keyboard comes with a single USB 2.0 port. Thus once this keyboard is docked, you get more connectivity options.
Onda V18 Pro Performance
This is the most interesting part of this Onda V18 Pro review. The latter comes with an Allwinner A63 processor, which is based on ARM architecture and uses four Cortex A53 cores. It can reach a frequency of 1.8GHz at maximum. This chip is also paired with a MaliT760 GPU clocked at 732MHz. Thus it is capable of providing strong viewing and gaming performance. There are two versions. One of them is packed with a 3+32GB memory combination, while the second one comes with a 64GB of internal storage.
As for AnTuTu scores, it reaches 54,542 points. Agree this is a great result if taking into account we are dealing with a 799 yuan tablet PC.
To realize how it behaves when playing games we have tested it via Honor of Kings. As you know, there are two modes – regular and high-frame modes. As expected, the Onda V18 Pro doesn’t provide a stable performance floating between 30-60fps. But when playing the game in a regular mode, this product is quite capable of showing respectable results of 30fps all the time.
We said the Onda V18 Pro comes with a 7000mAh battery. To test it, we set the brightness at 50% and played a video only for 1 hour. After the test, we checked the power state. It dropped from 43% to 28%. So we can say it is capable of providing up to 6-7 hours of video playback.
As for software, the Onda V18 Pro runs on Android 7.1. This is not the latest version, but you won’t find too many tablet PC with this version of OS.
Though there are too many goodies coming from this version of Android, we’d like one feature the most. It comes with an AR experience card. So when you run the software it ‘makes’ the figures get alive and move.
The Onda V18 Pro is a great tablet PC. It comes with a 2.5K resolution screen, thin design, large capacity battery, and runs on Android 7.1. You may think the processor it is packed with is a drawback, but the Allwinner A63 is a high-performance processor made especially for tablets. Due to powerful video and audio decoding capabilities and image rendering technology, it is considered as the most competitive 2K tablet processor on the market. So the V18 Pro is a great option for those who want a good 2-in-1 tablet.
