Meizu is all set to launch a new device on June 30th. The Chinese smartphone major has been promoting an event to be held on that day, and speculations in the Chinese media tend to point towards the launch of the MX5.
Now, there’s been a massive leak of multiple images said to be of the Meizu MX5, likely from the assembly line, which gives us a very decent idea of the size and shape of the upcoming device. The Meizu MX5 leaked images have confirmed that the upcoming device will sport a full metal body, and going by the images, the home-key at the center of the lower-bezel will be oval-shaped. This confirms the previously leaked renders, which can be seen at the top of this post.
It was previously rumored that the MX5 will come with a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The device is also said to be powered by Mediatek’s MT6795T chipset with an octa-core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz, and will reportedly ship with 3 GB RAM. The device will feature a 20 megapixel rear camera, and a 3 megapixel front camera. There will be a 3150 mAh battery, and the phone will also support microSD cards up to 128 GB. In addition to all of that, the Meizu MX5 is also rumored to feature a fingerprint scanner.
As for the pricing of the product, sources have claimed the phone will continue to be priced at the same level as the MX4, which currently retails for around 1,799 Yuan. Meizu believes, its pricing strategy will put a substantial amount of pressure on its competitors in the market. While there are no more details to go by, we’ll assume the phone will come with at least Android 5.0 Lollipop if not 5.1.
In a market where competition is ever-increasing, it remains to be seen how well the Meizu MX5 does, especially at a fairly reasonable price for its specs. With new startups launching every day, the Chinese smartphone market is becoming the hotbed for innovation and competition. While consumers are lapping it up, the OEMs are finding it tough amongst stifling competition and reducing margins.
