Do you remember the AGM X2 high-end rugged smartphone? Today, a Chinese smartphone maker announced the MANN 8S phone, which looks like the mentioned model and is considered to be a three-proof device. Its back panel is made of glass material, which poses a big challenge to the crash resistance of the smartphone. Let’s not only take a look at its appearance but also get acquainted with its key features.
Compared to previous generations, the overall design elements of the MANN 8S have not changed much. But in contrast to the mirror glass on the back panel, this phone has a different aesthetic. As a special-purpose smartphone, the MANN 8S focuses on the three-proof performance and the long battery life. In the outdoor environment, the MANN 8S adds a mirror glass back shell in the case of three defenses and long standby, making the whole phone quite fashionable.
On the front of the phone is a 5.5-inch screen with Corning’s fifth-generation Gorilla glass. In order to take care of the overall protective performance, the MANN 8S uses an irregular cutting method for the front panel. This is still quite difficult in the production process.
There is a thin gold wire on the edge of the front screen. This design makes the screen and the phone frame have a clear distinction. The addition of metal lines makes the whole phone full of punk style.
The front camera uses a 16MP single lens. In the handling of the handset, the MANN 8S tries to ensure the waterproof and dustproof performance. In addition, the outer side of the earpiece is made of hard plastic integrally formed with the middle frame, which ensures that the phone will not accidentally bump during use. The microphone on the front side has a similar design.
The back of the phone is made of mirror glass. It is made of PC and PMMC high-hardness composite glass. Compared with other manufacturers’ products, the MANN 8S is more wear-resistant and scratch-resistant, and it is not easy to break.
From top to bottom, the back is the camera, flash, fingerprint recognition sensor, MANN Logo, and speaker.
For the rear camera, the MANN 8S uses the Sony IMX386 sensor. Both lenses have a 12MP resolution – one is the color lens and the other is the black and white lens. Similar to the front panel, there is also a gold wire around the two cameras. On the right side of the camera, we can find the flash and the auxiliary microphone.
The upper part of the smartphone carries the fingerprint recognition sensor. Unlike other manufacturers’ rounded back fingerprint recognition sensors, the MANN 8S adopts a square design. And compared with other manufacturers’ products, the fingerprint sensor of the MANN 8S is deeper, which may be to ensure the strength of the back glass panel.
Near the bottom of the back is the logo of the MANN phone and a speaker. There are two screws on both sides of the speaker that fix the glass back. These two screws also have a certain decorative effect.
As a three-proof smartphone, the MANN 8S is waterproof and dustproof in the opening part of the speaker, which can better ensure the internal sealing of the device, preventing liquids and dust from entering the phone.
Next, let’s take a look at the middle part of the MANN 8S. The middle frame part of the MANN 8S is made of aluminum alloy aerospace metal with a hard plastic wrap around the edge of the screen. This part will be a little higher than the screen, ensuring that the screen will not come into contact with the ground accidentally.
The four corners of the smartphone are made of soft and hard plastic one-piece molding technology. These four corners are also important tools to ensure the anti-drop of the handset. The four corners have two layers of soft rubber wrapping, and the shock absorption effect is better.
In addition, the entire middle frame part has a few screws fixed, which makes the overall appearance of the phone full of thick punk style.
The top of the phone sports a 3.5mm headphone jack. The MANN 8S adds a dust plug to this interface to protect the phone from dust and liquid while ensuring the overall consistency of the phone.
On the right side of the phone, we can see the SIM card holder and the power/lock screen button. The MANN 8S is equipped with a rubber waterproof gasket on the SIM card holder to ensure that the phone will not fail due to the water in the SIM card tray.
In addition, this power/lock screen button uses the same design elements as the mobile phone as a whole but also uses gold chrome trim and dark engraved lines to maintain the consistency of the phone design.
The volume button and a separate shutter button are on the left side, with a gold-rimmed trim.
The bottom of the phone is a USB-C interface, which supports QC 3.0 fast charging. In addition, this phone also has a 6000mAh large battery capacity, which is not seen in other manufacturers’ products. The MANN 8S uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor with a 6GB of memory and 64GB or 128GB of storage. The phone is pre-installed with the Android 7.1 system. At present, the MANN 8S has begun to make an appointment. The 6GB+64GB version is priced at 2,299 yuan ($332), and the 6GB+128GB version is priced at 2,599 yuan ($375).
