Lei Jun Announces The Launch Of CDMA Xiaomi Note Device On June 29th

Mr. Lei Jun, the charismatic founder and CEO of smartphone maker Xiaomi has been announcing a lot of news about the company on Chinese Microblogging site Weibo of late. First came his post informing that the Redmi 2 and 2A has exceeded combined sales of 13 million units. Then came the announcement that the Redmi 2A had sold 600,000 units on the day a 100 Yuan ($17) price-cut was announced. Now, on Monday, Mr. Lei has announced a couple of things which would be very interesting for Xiaomi fans.

Talking about the first of those announcements, Mr. Lei let it be known that at least one next generation Xiaomi Note device will be launched by the company on July 29th of this month. While no other specifics were shared, there’s no way to tell as of now which device Mr. Lei was referring to. But seeing as the Mi Note and the Mi Note pro were only released a few months ago, it’s highly unlikely that those devices will get an update so soon especially as the second iterations of those devices are said to be powered by the Snapdragon 820, which will only start shipping to vendors in late 2015.

So whether the device to be launched on June 29th will be the Redmi Note 2 or the Redmi Note Pro 2 would be anybody’s guess. What we do know however, are some specifications of a few of the upcoming devices from Xiaomi thanks to various leaks over the past few weeks.

A large-screen device was leaked over the weekend because of a listing on regulator TENAA’s website. The device is said to feature a 5.5-inch full HD display, which is an upgrade over the last generation Redmi Note, which came with a 720p screen. The new generation device will be powered by a 64-bit Mediatek MT6795 Helio X10 octa-core SoC (System on Chip). The device will also sport a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera, and will support multiple networks like TD-LTE/LTE FDD/TD-SCDMA/WCDMA/cdma2000/CDMA 1X/GSM in China.

Mr. Lei also announced that Xiaomi has shipped over 10 million units of the first generation Mi Note, 20 million units of the Redmi Note and of course, 13 million units of the Redmi 2 and 2A combined, as mentioned earlier.
