Learn How to Choose a Safe and Secure Anti-Theft Door Lock!

From mechanical locks, anti-theft locks to electronic locks

Theft is as old as time. But various anti-theft measures are also emerging along with the advancement of technology. In this sense, the most basic and most important anti-theft measure is the door lock of the entrance door.

In ancient China, as early as 3000 BC, there were used wooden locks mounted on wooden framed buildings. At that time, the lock cylinder was very simple, and it was only docked by precise position. The solid hardwood body played the anti-theft role.

In the Eastern Han Dynasty, the technology of China’s iron three-spring locks had a fairly high level, and it gradually developed into a copper three-spring lock. The principle is that three plate-shaped copper pieces are installed in the lock, and the copper plate is closed and opened by the elastic force.

Later, with the innovation of technology, the padlock gradually replaced the previous reed lock, because its lock core is more complicated than the previous lock. Therefore, the safety factor is higher.

Up to now, padlocks are still widely used, but with the development of technology, the means of thieves have become more sophisticated, and various anti-theft locks have emerged.

Current anti-theft door locks are mainly divided into two types: Anti-theft door mechanical locks and anti-theft door electronic locks.

Mechanical anti-theft lock

The structure of the security door mechanical lock is mainly divided into three parts: the lock core, the lock body, and the panel handle.

door lock core

The materials are generally a 304 stainless steel, pure copper, zinc alloy, and aluminum alloy. The material selected for the lock cylinder is preferably pure copper or 304 stainless steel. Pure copper has good mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and wear resistance. At the same time, the 304 stainless steel has good stability, high strength, corrosion resistance, and rust resistance. As the lock body has high requirements on the strength and stability of the material. It is recommended to choose 304 stainless steel.

The panel handle can be selected from 304 stainless steel, pure copper or aluminum alloy. The latter has a number of advantages, such as the lightweight, high strength, no coating, not easy to rust and aging. The strength of the zinc alloy is not high and is mostly used at the door handle.

Classification of mechanical locks

The mechanical anti-theft door locks are classified according to their grades: Class A, Class B, and Class C.

The most obvious way of ranking is to divide according to the complexity of the key.

Class A anti-theft door lock core:

(1) The key is flat or crescent-type with a row of concave key fobs on one or both sides;

door lock

(2) The key is a cross-shaped four-sided convex keyway.

Class B anti-theft door lock core:

(1) The key is a flat type or a crescent type, and has two rows of concave key grooves on one or both sides;

(2) The key is a cylindrical multi-point concave keyhole.

Class C anti-theft door lock core:

(1) The key is a flat type, and there are two rows of concave and S-shaped key grooves on one or both sides;

(2) The key is a double serpentine keyway inside and outside.

Obviously, the C-class anti-theft door lock core is the most secure lock.

Electronic anti-theft door lock

The anti-theft electronic door lock is a combination of advanced technology and mechanical door locks. It not only has a higher safety factor but also is more convenient and worry-free.

There are many types of electronic locks, such as fingerprint locks, password locks, palm print locks, face recognition locks and swipe locks.

Swipe locks are common in hotel apartments. Face recognition locks are generally used at access points or security doors with wire perforations due to their high power consumption.

There are also locks with higher security levels, such as iris locks and venous locks that are commonly used in banks, troops, etc.

Fingerprint door lock purchase points

The main structure of the fingerprint lock includes front and rear panels, lock body, lock cylinder, fingerprint head, circuit board, motor, handle.

door lock

The material and workmanship of the panel of the fingerprint lock determine the value of the lock.

The panel materials recommended to choose are the 304 stainless steel or aluminum alloy. The reason is that these materials have high strength, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and long service life.

The lock body material is recommended to be preferably 304 stainless steel because this material has the highest strength and stability.

In addition to the conventional mechanical lock body, the lock body also has an electronic lock body. The electronic lock body is divided into the gear transmission electronic lock body and the infrared sensing induction lock body.

The difference between the two lock bodies is very simple. When the door is opened or closed, there is a sound of the motor.

The induction lock body is more sensitive, the action is faster, but the cost is higher, which is common in high-grade locks.

In the fingerprint lock, the lock cylinder is the core of the mechanical part. It is preferred to be a copper C-class lock cylinder.

There are two main types of fingerprint head materials on the market, one is optical sensing material and the other is semiconductor sensing material. Between the two, it is recommended to give priority to semiconductor sensing materials for three main reasons.

(1) The semiconductor fingerprint identification module can penetrate the skin surface layer and only recognize the living body fingerprint. The fingerprint cannot be copied. So the security is high.

(2) The semiconductor fingerprint identification module is composed of tens of thousands of capacitors and has a very high sensitivity and recognition accuracy.

(3) The semiconductor fingerprint recognition module has a high recognition rate.

Semiconductor fingerprint heads also have shortcomings:

One is that the semiconductor fingerprint identification module is slightly more expensive. The capacitive plate of the semiconductor fingerprint identification module is a capacitor array composed of tens of thousands of capacitors. The requirements for the technical requirements and materials are higher. So the cost is slightly higher.

The other is that the semiconductor fingerprint identification module is not easy to maintain, because the collection window of the semiconductor fingerprint head is affected by the stains and static electricity, and is easy to be scratched. So it is necessary to pay attention to protection and maintenance when using, otherwise, the service life will be short.

In addition to these two types, there is also a fingerprint head that intercepts fingerprints in the market. When the fingerprint is read, the door lock can be opened without worrying about leaving fingerprints.

In the fingerprint door lock, the electronic board and motor of the fingerprint lock are the core of the electronic part.

Among the international brands, only Samsung, Yale, and Syrac have their own motherboard R&D team. As for Chinese brands, there many, such as Lianchuang and Philips.

In terms of fingerprint lock handles, there is basically no problem with qualified materials, but there is also a point to pay attention to here. If there are children in the family, or there are pets, you should take the free handles into account when you choose. This will not only be effective but also prevent children or pets from accidentally opening the door.

Note on the fingerprint door lock

Tesla coil

On May 26, 2018, the Tesla coil unlocking incident at China International Door Industry Expo caused a big wave in the electronic door lock industry. Many electronic fingerprint locks exhibited at the fair were easily opened by Tesla coils.

tesla coil

It is a magnetic field generated by the small black box that allows the energy-saving lamp to emit light without power. So why can the Tesla coil turn on the smart door lock?

The smart lock CPU has a reset circuit that is affected by high-frequency electromagnetic fields and can interfere with the CPU reset circuit of the smart lock, resulting in a reset.

Interference using CPU reset is divided into two different cases:

  1. The system restarts, and the system automatically restores to the state before the interference. The previously set parameters have not changed. Smart door locks cannot be opened;
  2. After the system is restarted, it will be restored to the factory state. The factory state is divided into two types:

(1) the door lock is unlocked by default, and the door lock is automatically opened after the interference;

(2) there is an initial password, and the door lock is still open after interference. This is the reason why some smart locks encounter the magnetic field generated by the small black box to open the door, and some cannot be opened.

Strong magnet unlock

There are two types of strong magnet unlocking:

One is the same as the Tesla coil. In another case, the motor with some fingerprint locks is driven near the handle. After the fingerprint is pressed normally, the motor pushes the ejector pin inside the free device to catch the lock tongue. Press the handle to drive the lock body.

Because the general thimble is iron, under the action of the strong magnet swaying downward, the thimble can be sucked down to the main locking tongue, and the lock can be opened without using the fingerprint.

For a lock body that is not driven by a motor, after the fingerprint is energized, the free device will be magnetic, and the thimble is sucked down. So the strong magnet is easier to unlock.

High-temperature automatic unlocking

In addition, in order to prevent fire, some electronic locks will automatically unlock at a certain high temperature. Why is this happening?

This is because some locks are set to the normally open function at the factory. Once the fire temperature in the room is too high, the lock will be forced.
