The Mi Band 4 Xiaomi is one of the most popular fitness trackers worldwide and it is easy to see why: this tiny tracker is packed with many features and monitoring of sporting activities is very simple.
Another new fitness tracker in the US market is the Honor Band 5. A feature-rich fitness tracker and its highlights include NFC and SpO2.

So, it is only fair that we put the Honor Band 5 vs Mi Band 4 fitness bands against each other. You can discover the salient features and functions to decide which one is most suitable for you.
Design and wearability
Let’s start with the design of the Xiaomi Mi Band 4. Similar to its predecessor, the Mi Band 4 has a rounded design. You can easily change the strap to completely refresh the look of the device.

On the other hand, the Honor Band 5 takes a rectangular approach, just like the Honor Band 4. In our opinion the Band 5 is more elegant than the Mi Band 4.

Although both smartwatches sport TPU elastic straps, the locking mechanism is different. While Xiaomi has opted for the pin-and-tuck closure, Honor Band has the traditional approach similar to a watch, and it is this feature that makes Band 5 unique.
The bands of the Honor Band 5 are perforated to facilitate the escape of sweat and humidity. Not only does it increase the aesthetics of the band, but it also offers a more stable grip on the wrist. On the contrary, the Mi Band can open during intense physical activity.
Taking into consideration only the question of design, the Honor Band is in our opinion decidedly more elegant .
Display and touchscreen
Mi Band 4 mounts a 0.95-inch AMOLED color touch-sensitive screen. The colors are bright, punchy, which improves the appearance of this fitness band. In addition, the readability in sunlight is exceptional and we have not encountered any problems related to the display.

You can optimize the screen brightness according to your preferences. Another positive aspect of Mi Band 4 is that you can scroll between different watch faces , even from third parties. If you like your fitness band to have a themed dial you will find hundreds of skins to install !
Honor Band 5 also features a 0.95-inch AMOLED display that produces bright and vibrant colors. The display of the Band 5 is also easy to read even in bright sunlight, especially when you have lowered the brightness to the lowest levels.
Although both devices record touch input without problems, I found that the touch sensitivity of Honor Band 5 is slightly more responsive. Mi Band 4 tends to skip recording tactile inputs . In a few days, I had to tap multiple times just to select an option.
The downside is that the Honor Band 5 has only 8 dials and you have to settle because unlike the Band 4 I’ll have less room to play with.
Overall, I found the Honor Band 5 better both for the quality of the display and for the sensitivity of the touch.
When it comes to battery life, Mi Band 4 doesn’t disappoint. It has a significant update this year and boasts a 135 mAh battery that can last up to 20 days on a single charge .
Band 5 carries the same battery as its predecessor: 100 mAh battery, which lasts about 14 days . And if you enable features like real-time heart rate monitoring or sleep monitoring enabled, the life span of the bacteria drops to about 10 days .
Although the charging mechanism on both bands is the same, the charging approaches are different. With Mi Band 4, you should take the tracker module out of the strap and then connect it to the charging cable. In the meantime, you can simply remove Honor Band 5 from your wrist and hang it on the charger.
In a nutshell, the Mi Band 4 has a longer battery life but it is more inconvenient to charge it.
In addition to the common (and basic) functions such as pedometer, heart rate sensor, notification support and alarm clock, Mi Band 4 contains a new activity sensor capable of identifying how training is tracked. And the story doesn’t end there. It can also distinguish between different swimming styles. Reportedly, the new sensors provide more accurate readings.
Honor Band 5 is equipped with improved sensors for sport activity monitoring and heart rate monitoring. In addition, there is a new monitor for blood oxygen level , as we mentioned above.
In addition to the eight sport modes, Band 5 also boasts Huawei TruSleep, Huawei’s main sleep monitoring program. This mechanism helps identify general sleep disturbances ( similar to the GT2 update ) and will recommend ways to improve them. Even though the Mi Band tracks sleep, it only tells you the duration of Deep Sleep and Light Sleep.
Honor Band 5 surpasses the Mi Band 4 for heart rate tracking: there is a continuous heart rate monitoring function (24/7) that can be activated at the expense of the battery.
When it comes to results, both bands provide almost accurate results. But if you want more detailed statistics, in our opinion Band 5 is the clear winner here.
So which fitness band should you buy? If you have just started out with fitness activities, Mi Band 4 is a fantastic option. It has excellent battery life and the display is also fantastic.
Even if it tracks your sleep habits and heart rate, the statistics may not be as detailed as those of Honor Band 5.
On the other hand, Band 5 will provide you with a detailed analysis of your activity levels as well as your sleep patterns. Plus, you also get the advantage of Bluetooth 5.0, a premium design and improved sensors.
Taking into account that the price is practically comparable, if a few euros don’t make a difference, we recommend the Honor Band 5
