The question most people have is which is the best action camera that doesn’t cost a fortune? Most action cameras out there can shoot 4K and many of them are waterproof. If you ask us, we think it is definitely the Hawkeye FIREFLY 7SE Voice Control Action Camera. This amazing camera retails for an astonishingly low price of $80.

Without further ado, here is our honest review of the Hawkeye FIREFLY 7SE Voice Control Action Camera.

Design:

The camera comes in a black hard cardboard box with a picture of the camera on the front and some specs on the back. On the inside is the action camera itself along with a waterproof case, a bicycle stand, a base, a plastic tie, a long and short connector with screws, adapters, a mounting base, adhesive tape, a cable to charge the camera with, a frame for protecting the lens and lastly a user manual with instructions on how to use the camera. We personally think its pretty cool that the camera comes with so many accessories especially when it costs only $80. It sure does feel like a great deal. Right from the get go, we can tell that the camera is great. It doesnt feel like a cheap knockoff when you hold and the accompanying accessories are very high quality too.

The Hawkeye FIREFLY 7SE Action has a standard design that does not differ much from other action camera models we have reviewed, so it has a simple style. It comes in a matte black color.  The overall design is very simple, sleek and modern looking. The Hawkeye FIREFLY 7SE Voice Control Action Camera has slightly rounded edges, which will improve the experience when it comes to holding it because the round edges make it much easier to hold from an ergonomic point of view. It small and compact and I was able to easily fit it inside the little compartment in my purse.

On the front is a 12mm lens which is big and easily visible from a distance. The lens is located on the upper right side on the front of the camera. On the back, we have a 2.0 inch LCD screen which supports real-time monitoring and previewing, which shows you a clear detail of every picture and video. The camera comes with a compact waterproof camera case. What could be better than a high-quality waterproof case that allows you to record videos down to 30m underwater or just to keep out snow or dust? Other than the case, there are heaps of other mounting brackets and equipment for attaching the camera to your bike, bike helmet, or any other place. The uses for this camera are endless.

The camera is small and compact which makes it perfect for traveling. You can fit it inside any bag; it will even fit in the palm of your hand (that’s how small it is)

Features:

Hawkeye FIREFLY 7SE is the most powerful model released by the company yet and it comes equipped with the latest features. With the MSC8328Q + OV4689 high-end chip solution configuration, the camera delivers fast and smooth image and video processing. In addition to being able to shoot video up to 3.5K resolution with 30fps, the camera also features a wider viewing angle which enables you to take better pictures with almost a panoramic angle. The camera also has high brightness under the sunshine which means better and brighter outdoor pictures and videos.

This model is equipped with a 12MP sensor which makes sure that the resultant picture is crystal clear and bright. This camera is also equipped with voice control functions just like in the first Hawkeye camera. This makes for a truly hands-free experience. All you have to do is give your camera the desired command and it will do as commanded. The camera recognizes commands such as ‘Start Video’, ‘Stop Video’, ‘Take a Photo’ and ‘Turn off Camera’.  This function makes the Hawkeye FIREFLY 7SE superior to most of the other sports camera products. It also makes it easier for users to use this device when they are doing some sports or something.

Battery Life: The Hawkeye FIREFLY 7SE Voice Control Action Camera has a 1200mAh lithium ion battery. The battery is built-in and rechargeable thus you do not have to worry about changing the batteries every now and then. The camera comes with a USB cable which is used to charge the camera. The battery takes about 2.5 hours to charge completely. It has a standby time of 5 hours and a working time of 1.5 hours. The actual working time of the camera was somewhat disappointing compared to the battery life of other similar cameras on the market.

Hawkeye FIREFLY 7SE is Bluetooth enabled and connects to Wi-Fi as well. It has Bluetooth 3.0 and 2.5G Wi-Fi. A small Bluetooth remote controller is designed by the company which is compatible with the camera. You can wear it on your wrist or attach it to your selfie stick. This will enable you to remotely control and click pictures. This remote does not come with the camera but can be purchased separately.

Performance:

Moving on to the important stuff, how the camera performs. To really test out the camera and how durable it is, I decided to take it with me on a family weekend getaway to a seaside town. So, I felt that the camera works great. In terms of usability and its interface, I give it full points. I found it extremely easy to use and felt that it was user-friendly. Even my 13-year-old niece had no trouble operating it. The picture and video quality were great. The camera was able to take high-quality crystal-clear images even in the bright sunlight and even in the dark at night. The supporting Firefly app was also great. By connecting my phone and camera via Bluetooth, I was able to easily transfer media from the camera to my smartphone via the app.

Moving on to the voice control features, they work just fine and there is no gap between the time you utter the command and the cameras execution of that command.  The protective case that comes with the camera was a complete lifesaver. It protected the camera against water and whereas everything else was covered in sand the Hawkeye Firefly 7SE was an exception. No sand was able to penetrate through that cover. Everything about the camera from its design to performance is great. The only beef I have with it is the battery life. It lasts only for 1.5 hours and that is not a lot of time when you are on vacation for videotaping your climb to the top of a mountain. So you will probably have to carry a battery bank with you at all times. That is what I had to do.

Performance:

The Hawkeye FIREFLY 7SE camera performed really well during the time we tested it out. It records great videos and takes good pictures. The end product is enjoyable to look at especially because the colors turn out so bright, vivid and intense. We also tested out the waterproof feature of the camera and we are happy to report that the camera survived and no water was able to seep inside. The only thing that we didn’t like about the camera was the battery life. We hoped that it would last at least 3 hours. But unfortunately, it lasts only 1.5 hours of continuous use.
