Doogee Y200 Review: A Decent Doogee Smartphone with Fingerprint Unlock

The Doogee Y200 smartphone is an impressive mid-range handset that has attracted many tech-gadgets enthusiasts, especially the young ones thanks to its top-notch specifications, features, and a relatively low price. Doogee company launched Y200 model in the last year, in October. Also, this model is among first smartphones in its category that has a fingerprint scanner.

Android smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6 series and Note 4 have been offering this feature since 2013, and the new Doogee Y200 is yet to join that class though at an affordable rate. The aim of the company was to attract customers with quality at a satisfying price. Let’s get into the Doogee Y200 Review, and see has the company accomplished its goal.

In this packaging, you will be able to find one screen protector for your smartphone. Also, to learn how to use Doogee Y200 smartphone even better, you will get one user manual written in Chinese and English language.

As for some people, the Doogee Y200 smartphone looks like a Samsung clone. In fact, this smartphone has a great similarity to the Samsung smartphone in design. The rounded edges and sides of the device are made like that for a better handling experience, but you should know that the metal frame is kind of slippery, so using this rather large phone with one hand isn’t that easy.

Also, the oval sapphire Home key is a beautiful match to the rounded frame edges that gives this smartphone an elegant look. Another thing that is worth mentioning is the back cover, it incorporates rare brush metal, so we can say it is comfortable for us to hold it and it will standout with its exquisite texture. Slippery, but good to look at.

Doogee Y200 Design - Top

On top of the device there is a standard 3.5mm audio jack, and microUSB slot is at the bottom. The home button is physical, and the multitasking button and back button are capacitive. On top of the display we have a standard ambient sensor and front camera unit.

The Doogee Y200 smartphone comes with a big 5.5-inch LCD with a 1280 x 720 resolution, the display is acceptable, but it slightly lacks in resolution and contrast for its limited resolution of only 720p. There are certainly smartphones that can be bought in same price range with better displays out there, but we believe that some specs will not be good as the ones that you will have on the Doogee Y200.

Also, the display sharpness can be measured in the density of pixels per square inch of screen, and with 267 PPI, the Doogee smartphone is about the average for the phones that were released in 2015 in this price range.

Performance & Features

Doogee Y200 has a MediaTek MT6735 64bit Quad Core CPU that works on 1.0GHz and a ROM of 16GB of storage.

If that is not enough space for your requirements, well, we have the good news for you, because the storage is expandable up to 32GB, while the MT6735 CPU is the latest one of its series. We conducted AnTuTu Benchmark on this phone, and here are the results:

The processor scored average, and it was positioned on the bottom of the Ranking page, because it is compared with the top worldwide devices of today. The device performs well in regular usage, there is no lags or stuttering – the 5.1 Android works good.

Aside from the 5.5-inch display, another significant selling point for the Doogee Y200 smartphone is its fingerprint scanner technology that has been integrated in its front facing home button. As we said before, Doogee Y200 is the first Doogee smartphone device that is using the dual-fingerprint button. This feature is certainly intriguing especially for those buyers who prefer extra security on their devices. There is a 360-degree area created for the home button fingerprint for unlocking your smartphone.

You do not have to wake up the screen to enter the password, all you have to do is to put your finger on the scanner, and the device will unlock itself for you. Aside from screen unlocking, the fingerprint scanner is also important for app encryption, page turning, music switching, photo shooting and video control.

Next, the features worth mentioning are the gesture sensors, which enable the phone waking, starting an app, or hands-free calling and usage.  The sensors perform great and add to the functionality of the phone. The Ultra Power Saving mode is another feature on which the shoppers should pay attention – it enables the prolonged usage of the smartphone by dimming the screen, and disabling the multiple connectivity options. In this mode, Doogee Y200 will last for additional three hours, assuming that the mode is started at 20% of battery life.

Doogee Y200 features two cameras: the back camera features 8.0MP image size with flashlight and auto focus for taking quality photos even from a far distance. Thanks to its 5.0 MP, the front camera is excellent for taking selfies. It also has multiple Sony sensors such as light sensor, gravity sensor and the proximity sensor. The camera interface is redesigned from the last model, simplified, and enhanced. The big yellow button for taking pictures resembles us iPhone camera interface.

The interface is simple to use, and you can snap images with the touch of the button, or even touch anywhere on the screen. There is an option to focus with the touch on the screen, and you can even use the multifunctional fingerprint-scanner in the home button to capture images, record videos, or switch from camera interface to video recorder. Here is the screenshot of the video recording interface:

The images taken with the phone have a high level of details, sharpness and color quality that Sony lenses are famous for. Here are some samples:

Our Opinion

So there it is, a detailed look at the Doogee Y200 smartphone. It has its issues particularly with its flat display and average camera experience like most other smartphones that fall in this price category.

On the other hand, Doogee Y200 has its advantages as well. It has accurate and fast fingerprint scanner that is placed into the home button, and the overall design offers nothing less than the more reputed brands, like Meizu and Xiaomi mobile phones, so this is another Chinese budget smartphone that is worth of our consideration!

The usual price for Doogee Y200 is around $170-190 USD in the local stores. But, there are some good online dealers that are giving away an awesome deal on this smartphone. And we have done the comparisons for you and here are the best deals:
