In recent years, people’s understanding of ‘recording’ has been upgraded from simple photo/video capturing to ‘How to make the video more attractive, and how to share your life with more people?” As you guess, we are talking about vloggers that record videos of every moment of their lives and share them with their followers. Even when they are traveling, they can’t forget the SLRs, stabilizers, selfie sticks and even drones that cost too much. The vlogger video looks simple, but who knows how much time is spent and hard work is behind. Just yesterday, an amazing product was launched for the vloggers. It’s the DJI Osmo Pocket Camera.
DJI Osmo Pocket Camera Appearance
This is probably the smallest PTZ camera. The DJI products have had a real problem of size. That’s why many of its outstanding products are not portable. For example, the Mavic is likened to the size of a ‘Coke bottle’. As for the DJI Osmo Pocket Camera, it comes with dimensions of 121.9×36.9×22.75mm, and it can be compared with a regular lipstick. Though it has a compact size, the weight is 116g, and it is quite weighty to get it.
The construction of the DJI Osmo Pocket Camera is not complicated. The control area has two buttons and a small screen. As you guess, they are function buttons to switch between modes and shoot. There are indicators and microphones on the top. The display is a touchscreen.
In addition, the DJI Osmo Pocket Camera has a small hidden dial, located above the shooting button.
The back has a slight curvature and is completely different from the frontal ‘single-knife cut’ design. So you can distinguish the back and the front easily. The skin-like material that is added to the front side to provide better touch feelings.
There are not too many functions on the side and bottom. The microSD card slot is on the side, while the USB Type-C interface is on the bottom.
There is a microphone next to the USB-C interface. According to DJI, the reason for integrating two microphones is to judge the sound source orientation according to the size of the sound emitted and to make the sound source clearer through the built-in noise reduction function.
The DJI Osmo Pocket Camera uses a heat dissipation design called ‘T’ shape, and the heading position is made of heat-conducting metal. So the heat will be dissipated in the upper part of the hand-held part during shooting. Thus, your hands won’t get warmer when recording a video.
In general, this PTZ camera is small, but it comes with many useful features. The stabilizer and the camera are all in place. In order to facilitate the control, the company has added a screen.
DJI Osmo Pocket Camera Accessories
This is a pocket-sized product. It lacks some functions like the joystick in Mobile 2. So it is still inconvenient to operate. But the manufacturer knows this better than we. So there is a contact. Honestly, when we saw the contact, we first thought of the Lenovo’s modular phone, which allows the handset to achieve different functions through different modules.
In fact, the contacts on the DJI Osmo Pocket Camera also do the same thing. DJI brings a variety of accessories, such as the included lightning interface and USB-C interface. After connected to the smartphone, the latter becomes a multi-functional device.
There is also a WiFi dock (the camera itself does not support WiFi connection) and can be remotely controlled using the smartphone.
The pan/tilt control dial precisely controls the rotation of the heading axis and the pitch axis through the upper dial. The button on the right side can be used to return and rotate the camera with one click. With the addition of physical buttons, the track can be more precise when shooting.
There is also a sports kit snap, which is identical to GoPro, meaning it can be connected to all GoPros.
In addition to these accessories, there are others, such as filter lenses and diving shells.
DJI Osmo Pocket Camera 4K Shooting
This PTZ camera comes with a 12MP 1/2.3-inch CMOS, which has a 1.55?m pixel area, an aperture of F/2.0, a field of view of 80 degrees, and it supports 100Mbps 4K 60fps bit rate video and 1080P 30fps code rate in low light environment.
Just take a look at the comparison gif of the DJI Osmo Pocket Camera and the iPhone X, which supports optical image stabilization.
The DJI Osmo Pocket Camera uses the three-axis brushless motor head-and-cloud technology of DJI. It can perform high-precision adjustment compensation in real time.
The pan/tilt can control the translation from negative 230 degrees to positive 50 degrees, the roll is plus or minus 45 degrees, and the pitch is negatively 95 degrees to plus or minus 50 degrees.
DJI Osmo Pocket Camera 4K Shooting Experience
Honestly, when we first got this product, we felt that the screen was too small and the experience was not good. However, in actual shooting, it is quite good. Although the resolution of the screen is not high, it does not affect the experience.
The 12MP resolution lens faces no problem when shooting in a strong light environment. But the low light and night scenes are still not outstanding. This is the inevitable problem brought by the small body.
In fact, during the use process, the most touching is the more characteristic gameplay, such as the track delay. Set the starting point and the ending point, and the DJI Osmo Pocket Camera will take the track shooting according to the set time interval. In addition, the self-timer can automatically track the face and also add a beauty function, which is better than the previous Osmo Mobile 2.
Of course, the DJI Osmo Pocket Camera has many funny features, such as the FPV mode and the smart follow mode.
In terms of battery life, according to the official announcement, the DJI Osmo Pocket Camera can provide 140 minutes of battery life when shooting 1080p videos. In the actual experience, we could shot Full HD videos in 2 hours with no problem.
In order to reflect the small size and convenience of the DJI Osmo Pocket Camera, DJI has also customized a Mimo application for it.
In the Story mode, several modes are built in, and the DJI Osmo Pocket Camera automatically shoots, makes clips and soundtracks, and offers tons of filters.
This is a new way to shoot video. You don’t have to carry a camera and a number of stabilizers. The lipstick-sized DJI Osmo Pocket Camera can replace them. The DJI Osmo Pocket Camera is obviously more aimed at the sports camera on the market. The combination of the pocket-sized ‘sports camera’ and the stabilizer is the advantage of DJI. The protective case and the sports snaps make it a motion camera with a stabilizer function.
