Cubot X17S: Exterior design and materials.
The Cubot X17S is a loyal defender of the idea that a mid-range in terms of specifications can be premium when it comes to materials. Its side frame is built with zinc, which provides a level of resistance and hardness that the aluminum could never give, the front and the back of this device count with a design made in crystal 2.5 D, which together with its thickness of about 6 mm makes this terminal highly appealing and light.
The button distribution is the standard, volume and On/Off buttons on the right, the slots for the 2 SIM cards on the left. Unfortunately, we’ll have to say goodbye to one of this slots if we want to expand the storage memory of our Cubot X17S since it doesn’t have a memory SD card slot, a high price to pay for having a compact unibody chassis without removable housing.
The other features of this smartphone can be found off screen, the audio jack is found on the top side and a Micro-USB 2.0 on the bottom side accompanied by its respective microphone. Many smartphones try to go and announce themselves as “borderless”, in this case, the black frame surrounding the screen is actually pretty small, which makes a really nice combination with the 2.5 D curved glass of the screen. Just like the Cubot X17 the camera is located in the superior part of the rear and it counts with a double flash with a two tone and if we go to the inferior part of the rear we will find the speaker.
Specifications and performance. A low-range aiming to be mid-range.
It’s hard to classify the Cubot X17, since some of its specifications can be considered mid/high range, others are left in the low range classification, giving birth to a somewhat awkward smartphone. On one hand we have an IPS 5 inches screen with a nice HD resolution and an awesome density of pixels of 441ppp, as well as 3 GB of RAM something that we only see on the top low ranges on the market such as the Redmi 3 Pro or the Vernee Thor; but on the other hand we find a SoCMediatek 6735A constituted by 4 cores Cortex A-35 and a GPU Mali T-720MP2 that, without being a bad processor, it pales in comparison to the octa cores we’re used to see nowadays on cellphones which prices go around the 100 and 150 euros, where it’s a possibility to have a Mediatek MT6753 or a Snapdragon 616 as the brain of your device.

As we said before, the Cubot X17S is a terminal that is acceptable in almost all sections, being its weaker points, its 2500 mAh battery, that despite the fact we’re talking about 5 inches, we find it kind of short given the resolution of the screen and its processor, which is a limitation at the time to run apps that are heavier than normal. We can’t wrap our heads around the fact that the manufacturer wasted the opportunity of changing the processor for a Mediatek MT6753 that would’ve made this smartphone a more balanced and whole and with the capacity to take advantage of its generous RAM, but instead they decided to give the Cubot X17S the same processor as its previous version
We find the photographic section adequate, maybe it fails with low light, but that’s not something out of the ordinary with the smartphones in this range of prices. Moreover, its 13 MP interpolated to up to 16 MP for the rear camera and 5 MP interpolated to 8 MP for the front camera, should boast its great performance with good light conditions, where its kinda sparse aperture of F/2.2 will be a little handicap.
If there’s a section where the Chinese manufacturers have really focused in is in the connectivity, not because the 4G is no longer a privilege for mid/high range, but also because we count with a band of 900 MHz on the 3G and 800 MHz on the 4G, thanks to this we will be able to enjoy the Spanish networks to the fullest.
We put an end to this by talking about the extras, which in this case are the usual of the brand:
- Miravision: Technology owned by Mediatek for the improvement and screen brightness.
- Hotknot: The chinese substitute to NFC, to be able to exchange files between compatible smartphones via contact.
- Smart Wake: To be able to “Wake up” the terminal by using gestures on the screen without the need of pushing the power button. Thanks to this feature we can access directly to applications like the browser.
- Air Control: To be able to move between tabs or images on the gallery without having to touch the screen, this feature is rarely used, but can be extremely useful when we have our hands are dirty and we don’t want to touch the screen.
Here in XiaomiToday this Smartphone has impressed us in a very good way with its performance and power. Despite being billed as a Smartphone medium / low range, its features leave no room in no time at a low yield, but quite the opposite, with an MTK 6735 processor and 3GB RAM have been able to perform many simultaneous activities in the terminal even been able to run high-definition games without presenting slow or lag in the frames of the game.
These are some real pictures about this incredible Smartphone. Do you still have doubts?

Accessibility and Price of the Cubot X17S.
If you’re looking for a great performance at a little price, it’s more than clear that the Cubot X17S it’s not the smartphone you’re looking for; but if you’re someone that doesn’t pay too much attention to the specifications, and you’re looking for a smartphone that doesn’t let you down and has some amazing aesthetics, proper of a much more expensive smartphone, then the Cubot X17S is the ideal smartphone for you.
It’s a real disappointment that Cubot didn’t use this review to integrate a better processor, that would’ve put this terminal at the height of the super low range in the market. Despite that, we consider this smartphone to be pretty complete, despite a somewhat tight autonomy.
- Ergonomic and Premium design.
- Great constructive quality.
- Expandable storage.
- Radio FM.
- 3GB of RAM
- Unknown camera.
- Lower autonomy than the competence.
- No fingerprint reader.
- Somewhat tight performance.
- Unremovable battery.
