The Cubot Rainbow is an Android smartphone that can be considered to be an incredible combination of an attractive design and some interesting internal components, all of this while still being an input range. Thanks to that it can keep that price-specification relation that Cubot is so proud of.

With this device, Cubot didn’t go for the plastic materials or that simplicity that is proper for the housing of most of the devices of this range. Here most of the elements of this designed are made of aluminum.
Cubot has incorporated metallic borders at the sides of this device to provide some extra resistance to bumps or scratches; meanwhile, the rear area includes a corrugated area that makes it really comfortable to the tact and totally eliminates the risk of the phone slipping when you’re managing it with just one hand.
Also, the proportions of this phone are 142 x 72 x 8.8 mm, it comes in a variety of 5 colors: black, red, gray, golden, white.
The screen is made in an IPS panel and reaches a size of 5 inches, as for the resolution, it stays in 1280 x 720 pixels that give the device an acceptable density of 294 ppp. Aside from being multitouch, it also incorporates a contrast of 1300:1 and brightness of 450 cd/m² that will allow the user to play videos, see pictures, and play games, all of that with a little higher quality.
Performance and Memory
Internally speaking, its processor is signed by MediaTek and it’s an MT6580 model composed by 4 Cortex A7 cores working at a maximum frequency of 1,3 GHz. We also have a Mali 400 multi-core GPU and 1 GB of RAM.
For internal storage, we have 16 GB which are expandable to up to 32 GB with the use of a Micro SD card.
Camera, battery, and connectivity
If you’re that kind of user that really needs some good photographic quality, then you should really take a good look at the Cubot Rainbow. Its rear camera counts with a sensor can reach the 13 MP with an aperture of f/2.0, 5P lens, autofocus technology and an LED flash.
Its frontal camera has 5MP with an aperture of f/2.8 that can also get some pretty nice selfies, as long as you have good lighting. The battery provides us with an autonomy that will allow us to reach the end of the day thanks to its 2200 mAh capacity.
It works with the latest factory version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, it counts with two SIM slots, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, but sadly, no OTG function. Unfortunately, its mobile data networks can’t reach the new 4G LTE standard and it’s only viable via 3G WCDMA and GSM.
Differences with the Cubot Cheetahphone
The Cubot Cheetahphone was also an expected release from Cubot after being announced and released earlier this year. To make some differences between these two devices, we have to make clear that these terminals are intended for users with different budgets, one is more economic than the other.
The Cubot Cheetahphone counts with a larger screen with 5.5 inches, as well as Full HD resolution. It also has a last generation MediaTek processor, the MTK6735 octa-core to be precise. The storage memory is the double as the one in Cubot Rainbow and the RAM is the triple.
We really recommend that if you have enough money to spend on a new smartphone, then you should really take the Cheetahphone into consideration.

Here we have a basic input-range phone, a phone that does its job very well but has some issues, not everything has to be negative, it also has some nice details, for example, its metallic design is perfect for the user that tends to fall, or accidentally hit things, that is because of the durability its design provides, also if you’re the kind of user that never misses a chance to take a picture, then we have good news and bad news for you, the rear camera it’s simply awesome, there’s no denying that, but there’s an issue with the frontal camera, it’s not that it’s bad, but you won’t be able to take selfies in low lighting, but that’s something common between other devices. Now it’s time to take a look at the defects of this product, its performance could be way better, it’s acceptable but not what we expected, and the lack of 4G is just not good at all.
We really think this is a good smartphone, attractive design, nice camera, a decent performance, a little lacking in the connectivity section because of the 4G issue, but overall this is a very nice option for those who don’t have a huge budget for a new phone.
- Attractive metallic design
- Really good principal camera
- Factory Android 6.0
- Really basic performance
- Doesn’t have support for 4G LTE
