By now I realize that the laptop is used only when I have to write and concentrate. For all my other activities I much prefer a tablet. You will understand how much fun I had to try the Chuwi Hi9 Plus on the field . A tablet that has the possibility of LTE connection and that in the “complete” configuration also has a magnetic keyboard and a pen for writing. Let’s find out if he convinced me.

Packaging and Design
The packaging of the Chuwi Hi9 Plus is of yellow cardboard, usually for Chuwi. This time there seems to be an extra cure for the product stuck in the package. There is also a 5V = 2A wall power supply, with socket compatible with those in our homes and a USB – USB type C cable . If you then decide to purchase the “full” version, you will also find a magnetic keyboard and a stylus pen . We will find out later if it makes sense to spend more on these accessories.
Aesthetically it does not bring big news compared to other products of the same family. On the front there is the display, there are no buttons. The display of the Chuwi Hi9 plus is an IPS with a resolution of 1600 × 2560 . Present the camera, in the center of the short side.
Looking at it horizontally, in the upper part we find the volume keys. Black volume keys, the power button of a beautiful bright red.
On the right there is nothing, while on the left we find the headphone jack input , a USB Type C port and a slot for 2 nano sim or for a nano sim and a microSD.
The lower side has a magnetic door in the center and two holes that are used for the keyboard to fit together.
On the back the back cover is in aluminum . At the top left there is the rear chamber, at the bottom and top left the holes for the speaker . Almost completely made of aluminum, except in the camera area, probably to improve the connection of the antennas. Despite the really good general build quality, there are no crunches or anything else, I must say that it keeps fingerprints too easily.
Chuwi Hi9 Plus features a 10.8″ IPS display , 2.5D curved glass . The resolution is an incredible 2560 x 1600 pixels . You will understand how on such a generous size a 2.5K display makes it a real pleasure to watch films that support this type of resolution.
The colors are good , quite saturated, while the blacks pleasantly surprised me. The vision of cutting leads to a slight graying of the colors. All in all, watching movies and series is a pleasure.
What has not convinced me at all , but rather has bothered me, is the touch . Initially I thought I was wrong in typing or scrolling. I started to pay more attention to the use of the touch to notice its difficulty in use. Unfortunately, the experience is not at all satisfying and, indeed, it conditions the device itself a lot. Fortunately when I had to write I used the keyboard. Let’s be clear, it is used, with some repetitions, but personally accustomed to perfect touch this has made me crazy several times.
Tablets take photos, although we often forget them. Obviously we do not expect rooms like smartphones, in this case we are also below the sufficiency. The bare minimum is guaranteed. Take the photo and you can recognize what you photographed.
The Chuwi Hi9 Plus features two cameras , both 8MP . With the presence of a lot of light and still subjects the photos are really bad. Better for photographing documents, more office use therefore. Fortunately, it is not chosen for its camera and for video calls and the like the quality is acceptable.
Chuwi Hi9 Plus has two speakers , placed in the two holes on the back. Strong enough to show us a movie. The position in the back does not direct the audio towards us directly but in return. Be careful not to cover that area then with the case.
In general the quality is good , the bass is a bit absent, while the other frequencies are better managed. As mentioned above, good for watching movies and multimedia files. To be avoided by listening to high quality music, which is not its purpose.
The built-in microphone performs well , during the various video calls there were no problems from those who listened to me.
The battery mounted on the Chuwi Hi9 Plus is 7000 mAh . This battery size allows us to easily get through the day with intense use of the device. For prolonged sessions of watching movies and TV series, it can even make 5/6 hours of screen on . A more than sufficient duration both if you have to pass the time and if you have to study and take notes.
Charging times with the charger supplied in the package are just over 2 hours . Not a very fast charge but in line with the size of the battery.
The really interesting thing is the dual sim support. Chuwi Hi Plus supports 9 , in fact, two Nano sim (or a Nano sim and a microSD ) connectivity with LTE . Also present is the dual band Wi-Fi connection , Bluetooth 4.1, the FM radio, GPS / Glonass / A-GPS and a USB Type-C input .
During the tests I found a capacity for hooking the networks , both Wi-Fi and mobile networks, rather poor . I managed to do everything, however in areas where other devices marked open field the Chuwi Hi9 Plus had an average reception. The same goes for connection speeds. In the house, only one wall was enough to significantly reduce its speed. There were no network absences, it is clear, however, I noticed some performances between the good and the good.
The operating system installed on the Chuwi Hi9 Plus is Android 8.0 Oreo . There are no updates to install, I don’t think there will ever be. The security patches are stopped in June 2018.
The system is mostly stock and without any kind of customization, except for a basic file manager and a couple of things. There is no real system optimization. There are no errors or things to report, but on the software front, something more could be done.
Separate chapter for accessories that can be purchased separately. The tablet can be accompanied by a cover / keyboard and a pen .
The cover / keyboard is gorgeous . Thin at the right point, it allows you to put the display in a convenient position for watching a video or writing. It greatly facilitates writing and allows you to transform your tablet into a more complete work tool. The only “flaw” the keyboard has a US layout , you will have to remember the position of the Italian keys.
The pen, Hi pen H3 , is quite smooth and practical . I don’t understand the usefulness of the two keys, I tried to configure it in several ways without success. Unfortunately, compared to other pen models, this requires an AAAA battery to work . The use of the pen, instead of the fingers, improves the functionality of the touch.
If I had to evaluate the Chuwi Hi9 Plus LTE without the accessories it would have a different functionality from that with the accessories. Without pen and above all keyboard, Chuwi is an excellent entertainment product . Ideal for viewing content, Netflix and Youtube in the first place. All those social programs and web browsing do not present problems or smudges for daily use.
The addition of accessories increases the product’s capabilities also for productivity purposes. The headboard significantly increases the writing ability, making them more pleasant and in general the Chuwi Hi9 Plus becomes a more versatile product .
