Chuwi Hi9 Air: The tablet specialist presents us with a device with excellent battery life

Chuwi is a company that has previously focused on tablets with two operating systems pre-installed for user convenience. While with the Chuwi Hi9 the company undertook last year on the issue of only Android tablets. Now they are giving this device an update and they have presented us the CHUWI Hi9 Air with Android 8 Oreo!

Chuwi Hi9 Air

Chuwi Hi9 Air: Design

The first thing that catches the attention of the Chuwi Hi9 Air tablet is that it is a large device, which is on the heavier side of the measurement scale, both in terms of dimensions and weight. Still, it can not be denied that the Chuwi Hi9 Air looks considerably modern. You will also find it available in two variants of gray with black or totally black.

Chuwi Hi9 Air: Design

In total, the Hi9 Air has the following dimensions 24.17 x 17.20 x 0.79cm and weighs 550 grams. Well, everything in life has a price, and the lack of ergonomic design is the price you pay for the huge battery with which this tablet is equipped. If you are one of those people who does not like to charge your devices often, you will definitely be able to see beyond their construction and weight, for the sake of a long lifespan.

On the front, all the margins are quite thin and around the screen the frame is black; here you will only find the front camera. If you choose the model in gray, the edges and back are dark gray metallic; except for the area of the rear camera that also adopts the color black.

Chuwi Hi9 Air: Screen

The tablet has a 10.1-inch SHARP LCD IPS screen, which may be a bit smaller compared to other models available on the market, but its resolution of 2560 x 1600 WQXGA more than compensates for this device. It also offers an image ratio of 16:10 and a pixel density of 299ppp, which makes it ideal for playing videos, even those with a resolution of 2K, which are displayed in widescreen mode and with great clarity.

The Chuwi Hi9 Air also incorporated the full lamination technology OGS (One Glass Solution), which offers some protection against scratches and screen damage. The LCD screen and the touch screen have been placed together with spaces close to zero, which significantly reduces air refraction, improving brightness and clarity.

Chuwi Hi9 Air: Hardware

The Hi9 Air comes with 4GB of DDR3L RAM and 64GB of eMMC ROM capable of writing and reading speeds of up to 150 m/s. It also comes with an SD card slot, with which you can expand the internal storage capacity of the device up to 128GB. Expandable storage provides enough memory space on the tablet to meet all user needs, including games, applications, music, images, movies, and documents.

Chuwi Hi9 Air: Hardware

The inclusion of the ARM Mali-T880 MP4 GPU, the MediaTek Helio X20 (MT6797) chipset and the accelerometer sensor make it a powerful and stable machine that has no problems with delays and is able to offer a user experience at the same time of a laptop. The processor, although it is a little old, has a great performance with its ten cores divided between Cortex-A72 and Cortex-A53, which are highly efficient able to reach up to 2.3GHz of processing speed, at least in the powerful cluster of dual core.

Chuwi Hi9 Air: Operating system and connectivity

The real surprise, however, is the inclusion of a particular Android operating system in the Hi9 Air. And Chuwi delivers that surprise on a high note by offering the Hi9 Air with Android Oreo v8.0. This brings, for example, an image mode and enhanced notifications.

Chuwi Hi9 Air: Operating system and connectivity

For home use, the manufacturer thinks of dual-band WiFi, that is, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WLAN. In addition, we also have Bluetooth 4.2 on board.

But much more interesting is the possibility of using a mobile network through two LTE micro SIM card slots. Chuwi here speaks of a “WorldMode 4G“, but limited to 11 LTE bands. For our luck, it is also compatible with the LTE 20 band!

Chuwi Hi9 Air: Operating system and connectivity

That means you can use the Chuwi Hi9 Air with a data card with mobile Internet. Also, the device is equipped with a micro USB port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a memory card slot. And as for navigation is not far behind as it has GPS, A-GPS, and GLONASS.

Chuwi Hi9 Air: Camera

The Chinese manufacturer has made a major update on the Hi9 Air in terms of the devices for photography and video. Now, this Chuwi tablet is far from predecessor as it comes with a 13.0 MP camera with LED flash on the back that is equipped with features such as autofocus, digital exposure, geo-tagging and uninterrupted shooting. Additionally, the Hi9 Air is equipped with a 5.0MP front camera, but unlike its rear panel counterpart, it lacks any LED light support.

Chuwi Hi9 Air: Accessory keyboard

The functionality of this tablet can be enhanced by adding the Chuwi HiBook Pro keyboard that provides a familiar laptop structure to this tablet for increased productivity.

Chuwi Hi9 Air: Accessory keyboard

This accessory keyboard is intended for those who want to use the Hi9 Air for heavy tasks because the tablet has the specifications to support it. In general terms, it can be linked to the Hi9 Air through any of the USB ports or even paired via Bluetooth.

Chuwi Hi9 Air: Battery

It is powered by a battery with an 8000mAh capacity of non-removable lithium polymers that provides a run time of more than a day with a single full charge. The battery is undoubtedly one of the strongest features of this device. On the other hand, the omission of the fast charge support makes carrying this titanic battery to a full charge a tediously annoying process. Thanks to its low load capacity, the battery of the Hi9 Air takes about 3-4 hours to reach the 100% mark.
