Packaging

Before we even started opening the Blackview BV2000S packaging, we have noticed that a lot of price cutting has gone on the Blackview. The packaging is the cheapest cardboard so far that we have seen of any Chinese phone for years. The contents are also simple with the accessories and phone (USB wire, and EU charger) separated by a single piece of cardboard.

Packaging content:

  • 1  Blackview BV2000 Android Phone
  • 1  Charger
  • 1  Battery
  • 1  USB Data Cable
  • 1  User manual

Design and Display

Blackview Company has caught a look at what other phone makers have created this year. They made notes, and they decided that copying was the best path to follow. If you haven’t noticed yet, the Blackview BV2000S is a clone of the Meizu M2.

Copying a phone means that the creators of the Blackview don’t have to spend time creating their own, and this explains how Blackview managed to get the BV2000S on the market so fast. It also helped them to keep the price low too, and they have done a good job if you disregard the cloning fact.

With the smartphone in our hand, you can see that this is not so expensive phone. The bezels on all sides of the phone are very thick, and the 5-inch display itself, despite a 1280 x 720 HD panel, is not an OGS model. But thanks to all these things included, we have got a really cheap smartphone. The BV 2000 screen is also very sensitive to collecting smears and fingerprints so be prepared to clean it often.

Beneath the phone display, we can see a home key. This is an essential piece of equipment, there is no fingerprint scanner or touch sensitivity to it, and it’s just a basic home key. Each side of this oval button is a back button on the right and a multitasking button on the left.

When we turned this smartphone over, we will see that the BV2000S is a unibody phone, but that plastic rear panel does pull off. The physical buttons and the back side come off in one piece.

Processor and RAM

The hardware features include a Mediatek MT6735 quad-core processor. This 1.0Ghz chipset is low on power, and it is very efficient.

Blackview Company has combined the quad-core SoC up with 1GB of RAM, which is not much nowadays, but when we take into consideration the price of this smartphone, it is fine and it will get you through Facebook, Twitter and browsing the web without any issues at all.

Camera

Truth to be told, 5 megapixels doesn’t sound all that impressive, but as we have seen on the Meizu MX3 and iPhone (plus others) a 5 mega-pixel camera can be excellent. But this is not the case with this phone, though. The focus speed is slow, and images are quite noisy even indoors with enough light.

To show you the quality of this camera, we have prepared some photo samples:

Storage and Connectivity

The internal memory of the Blackview 2000S is 8GB, which is enough for storing your media files, but if you want to install some games or high-demanding apps, the phone has a slot for SDcard, which means that you can expand it with additional 32GB to satisfy your needs.

Since this phone supports 3G network, the chipset allows you to use the BV2000S on LTE networks, and supported bands are 2600 Mhz/ 2100 Mhz/ 1800 Mhz/ 900 Mhz/ and 800 Mhz

Battery

Blackview 2000S is powered by a removable lithium battery with a capacity of 2400 mAh. We have tested the durability of battery and here are the results:

Hours in standby: 93 h
Hours of web browsing: 12 h
Hours of music: 59 h
Hours of telephone: 14 h
Hours of video recording: 3 h

Operating System

Blackview Company ships the BV2000S with Android 5.1 Lollipop, but you should know that this is not a stock installation. The icons and launcher are all modified for the smartphone, and there is no app drawer, so all our applications are in plain sight. Google services are part of the ROM, so installing an alternate launcher and icon pack won’t be an issue.

Once we enter the settings, we will see that the system looks like a stock Android Lollipop ROM, with options for gesture controls and smart motion.

Smart motion option is mainly using the proximity sensor on the front of the Blackview 2000S smartphone to activate different features by waving our hand in front of the phone. But oddly, the gesture control menu also has options for many features that are activated by the wave of the hand.

Our opinion on BlackView 2000S

No matter where you decide to buy the Blackview BV2000S, it will cost you from $68.99 to $79.99; it’s a low price for a smartphone but is it worth buying?

It all depends on what kind of smartphone you are looking for. If all you need is a low-cost phone that will keep you connected to the world then this one is perfect; or if you’re looking for a gift for a basic smartphone user who is starting to use Android, this is a great gift.
