We believe everyone who loves traveling with the second half or family, will sooner or later come to the conclusion that very few photos come good enough to remain in memory. Moreover, most of the time it’s not a good idea to entrust your expensive smartphone to some stranger’s hand. Most of the time people often don’t bother and take pictures of their fingers as they don’t value your ideas for photos especially in a foreign country. This makes us bring the express comparison of Benro MK10, Huawei AF15, and Xiaomi Mi Selfie Stick Tripod for making your life easier.
For your next trip, it’s better to have a selfie stick: preferably compact in the assembled state, but long in the extended. At the same time reliable for safe holding the smartphone, but convenient for quick “actuation”, with a wireless remote and a tripod for all occasions.
The online stores are full of trash claiming to be an excellent selfie stick. However, we selected the three models from the top brands which can really make an impact in your next trip. There were some other good models as well, but mostly they were a clone of some other good brand. In this competitive world if you just make clones of some brand, undoubtedly you are going to disappear from the shelves from the pages of stores. Also, our aim is always to choose the best from the best which can genuinely make an impact in our reader life and makes his life a bit easier.
After some time we will also write a review for all the selfie stick separately on this site. So I will not go into details but will conduct a philistine comparison and describe my impressions.
Packing and packaging
The packaging does not affect the experience of using the product. However, we will attach a photo to assess the dimensions:
Xiaomi Mi Selfie Stick Tripod and Huawei AF15 are just like twins, and Benro MK10, at first sight, attracts with its size and weight and then also with its protective blister and bundle. The first two selfie stick are monolithic devices, however, the Benro MK10 comes with a sliding base with a tripod head. Moreover, the Benro MK10 also comes with two mounts – for a telephone and an action camera.
Dimensions and weight
Even arriving in the biggest box and with sophisticated design, the Benro MK10, amazed us with its size when folded- it is the same length as Huawei AF15 and Xiaomi Mi Selfie Stick Tripod. The only difference lies in the slightly larger size due to its removable fasteners. The longest in all three of them is the Xiaomi Mi Selfie Stick tripod which is having slightly more length than Huawei AF15. However, all these are in the unfolded state as in folded state its another story.
As we already told from the unfolded state comes insight:
It is not clear what the Xiaomi engineers we guided by while creating the design of Xiaomi Mi Selfie Stick as its length is shortest among them. The dimensions of the sticks from the handle to the attachment of a smartphone are as follows:
Xiaomi Mi Selfie Stick – 23 cm
Huawei AF15 – 45 cm
Benro MK10 – 72 cm
In all of them, the Xiaomi Mi Selfie Stick is two times shorter than Huawei AF15 and three times shorter than Benro MK10. With the same initial unfolded dimensions! When its come to the weight, the first two does not differ at all within 150 g, while the latter weighs more 230 g.
According to us, the length of the selfie stick is the primary parameter and, other things being equal, the longer it is, the better.
Materials and assembly
The Xiaomi Mi selfie stick and Huawei A15 practically look same, but tactile wise they are very different. The Xiaomi Mi selfie stick feels closer to the soft touch, and Huawei AF 15 is rougher. Feeling wise we couldn’t determine which one is better, periodically more pleasant in hand, and it seems one or the other. Looks wise, both the selfie stick top and delight the eye. Benro MK10 among them really stands out, and it seems a little ridiculous, rubber inserts have burrs, plastic is rough. However, in hand, thanks to the same rubber bands and more weight, the selfie stick fix more reliably and create the impression of a more serious device.
Both the Xiaomi Mi Selfie Stick and Huawei AF15 comes with telescopic tube and are very similar in performance. However, the Huawei AF15 has more section, that makes it slightly thicker and therefore looks cooler. Also, it is covered in some more brilliant color, which provides it even more coolness. On the other hand, the Benro MK10 doesn’t have any plastic gaskets at the junctions of the section, and it is not colored at all, which gives it a rough and cheap look. Moreover, while folding the Benro there is a chance you can hurt yourself from the edges of the section, so you have to be careful regarding that. In the extended state, though not much, it bends. However, all this can be forgiven, due to its length.
Picture order: Xiaomi Mi Selfie Stick, Huawei AF15, Benro MK10.
Regarding the standing legs, the Xiaomi Mi Selfie Stick and Huawei AF15 are pretty similar to each other, but it is much more robust in Benro MK10. We think comments are unnecessary here, as you can see the difference from the picture below:
There is still three main difference between the Xiaomi Mi Selfie Stick and Huawei AF15, and they are:
- Compared to Huawei AF15, the Xiaomi Mi Selfie Stick rubber inserts are quite large, and they are a continuation of the legs. However, Huawei has thin rubber linings on the ends of the selfie stick.
- The Xiaomi Mi selfie stick tube is rigidly fixed relative to the handle, however, the Huawei AF15 tube moves inside the case, increasing the stick length by several centimeters. Moreover, due to this, the legs move apart a little wider making the stick more stable on uneven surfaces.
- In Xiaomi, the legs of the selfie stick are fixed in the extended state. With Huwaei, they hang out, due to this it becomes hard to move it in tripod mode from place to place.
In comparison to the other two, the Benro MK10 stand is harder, more powerful, and more stable in any situations.
The smartphone mount for Xiaomi Mi selfie stick and Huawei AF15, differ only in the force of the spring. The Huwaie mount is little to tight making it difficult to insert a large smartphone. On the other hand, the Benro MK10 has a folding and uncomfortable mount. However, the Benro MK10 comes with a mirror, which is essential for inexpensive smartphones with a weak front camera.
In below pictures, we attempted with the same effort to stretch the mount with two fingers. You can easily see that Huawei A15 managed to extend with two times less force than Xiaomi and Benro.
Both the Xiaomi Mi selfie stick and Huawei AF15 are fixed with a click with a step of 45 degrees relative to the hinge head. The head itself rotates with a level of 180 degrees relative to the axis of the stick and freely perpendicular to the axis of the stick. Benro MK10 comes with a ball head, which provides unlimited freedom of fixing the smartphone. On the one hand, this head is reliably tightened without much effort, and it makes it unrealistic to set it in its original position. The more you tighten the screw, the more the head turns to the side.
The remote controller of all the three sticks are identical in functionality, and the only differences are the outside look. Although Huawei went a strange way and rather than a rechargeable battery, it chose a CR 2025 battery as a power source. All the functions can be use by long pressing the main and only button.
We have seen many reviews suggesting that the Huawei AF15 console’s magnetic module is less secure than that of the Xiaomi selfie stick. In our opinion, the results are actually entirely opposite. The Huawei AF15 console not only just hold onto the magnet but likewise snaps into a particular slot, and the magnet only adds confidence that even if the console slips out of the groove, it will be more difficult to lose. The Xiaomi Mi selfie stick console comes with deeper grooves, and its structure more densely enters the groove. However, the material of the grooves itself is somewhat soft, and the console in it slightly “floats”.
In Benro MK10, the working is quite different and the remote controller inserts into the flip-flop by the Micro USB connector. On the back side, there is a microscopic pip, which enters the slot on the handle. It seems to hold on normally, but somehow it does not inspire confidence. Before our eyes, there are consoles from TVs and covers of old phones, which constantly have problems with such anchorage. Well, Benro MK10 looks like a monster against Xiaomi and Huawei.
The most awkward position of the remote on the stick is in Benro MK 10 because it is lower than that of Xiaomi and Huawei. Also, it sits on one of the legs, which makes it hard for a confident grip. Moreover, paired with a large stick length and decent weight, in the most extended state, there is an alarm to drop the stick. At first, we thought that such an arrangement of the remote should be more beneficial in terms of increasing the distance from the hand to the smartphone. However, in practice, these 2-3 centimeters are not worth sacrificing the comfort of the grip.
In our modest opinion, the Benro MK 10, despite all the flaws is the leader among characteristics we survey. The selfie stick maybe cannot boast about its stylish design, pleasant tactile sensations, it is impossible to charge a smartphone into it and make an instant frame with one hand movement. However, it is stronger, longer, more stable, more versatile. The ball head provides you with more freedom while choosing the position of a smartphone, the standard tripod screw allows, in addition to a smartphone, to fix a camera, an action camera, a microphone, lights or any other equipment on a stick.
Otherwise, the stick from Huawei AF15 combines stylish design and long enough to photograph something other than yourself. From Mi Selfie Stick we could not single out a single plus, but we could almost shoot it with the same success.
The price of all sticks varies in the range of 15-18 dollars, Xiaomi and Huawei periodically come to Gearbest for 12 dollars (Xiaomi more often). The difference is insignificant, so in fact the whole choice between design and versatility.
