In China, the manufacturer from the BBK Electronics Group is now presenting the autumn model for the year 2021: The OnePlus 9RT starts with Snapdragon 888 and Sony IMX766 50MP camera sensor for $599. It’s not the top models that get a facelift, but the warmed-up OnePlus 9R – or OnePlus 8T.
So you take the top processor Snapdragon 888 from Qualcomm, combine it with a slightly better triple cam of the OnePlus Nord 2, and even enlarge the AMOLED display. The Nord series from OnePlus is not available in China, and the OnePlus 9RT is the new “entry-level model” in the range. The OnePlus 9R series, on the other hand, was never released for Europe. Would the manufacturer enrich the European market with the OnePlus 9RT? With the OnePlus Nord 2, we already have our flagship killer.
OnePlus 9RT Display:
With the larger display, the device also grows a little in length. The OnePlus 9RT measures 162.2 x 74.6 x 8.29 millimeters and weighs 198.5 grams. There are three stylish designs to choose from for the OnePlus 9RT:
“Dark Matter” in black with a very matt, almost rough surface made of glass. It should remind you of the “Sandstone” variants from back then.
“Hacker Silver” in silver/white with a matt glass on the back, still offering a diffuse shine.
“Blue Sky Enchantment” in turquoise made of glossy glass with a golden shimmer/gloss effect towards the edges.
The power button and three-stage volume slider are located on the right of the frame; the volume rocker is located on the left, and the loudspeaker, USB-C (2.0) connection, and the SIM slot are below.
The 6.62-inch AMOLED panel almost completely takes up the front. This is in 20: 9 format and offers a pixel density of 397 pixels per inch with a 2400 x 1080 pixels resolution. Corning Gorilla Glass protects the display. The refresh rate of 120 Hertz enables wonderfully smooth animations. For gamers, the sampling rate of the touchscreen has been increased to 600 Hertz.
Hardware and system:
The Snapdragon 870 of the OnePlus 9R was basically enough for us, but the facelift gets the upgrade to the Snapdragon 888. The top processor is combined in the OnePlus 9RT with LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 system memory. The memory configurations are 8 / 128GB, 8 / 256GB and 12 / 256GB to choose from.
As you already know from the Chinese OnePlus models: The OnePlus 9RT is equipped with the Oppo system. The latest version is used: Color OS 12 based on Android 12 (or only with Android 11, and the update will follow soon). Until next year the joint system of OnePlus and Oppo will follow.
OnePlus 9RT Camera:
If the OnePlus 9R was again the Sony IMX586 with 48MP. As in the OnePlus 7 – there is now finally the upgrade to the Sony IMX766 with 50MP. The main camera sensor already delights us in the OnePlus Nord 2 and serves as an ultra-wide-angle sensor for the two top models. The camera in the OnePlus 9RT is optically stabilized (OIS) and, thanks to the Snapdragon 888, also supports videos with 4K / 60fps.
The Triple Cam also features a 16MP ultra-wide angle sensor with a recording range of 123 ° and a 2MP macro sensor. OnePlus installs the Sony IMX471 with 16MP in the punch-hole notch at the front.
Additional connectivity standards include WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 with support from LDAC (audio), dual-band GPS (+ Galileo, single-band GLONASS, BeiDou, and A-GPS), and NFC for mobile payments.
Otherwise, the equipment is extensive as usual with the OnePlus flagships. Biometrical unlocked via the fingerprint sensor under the AMOLED display or the front camera. The speakers have stereo sound and are Dolby Atmos certified. The 4500-mAh battery is the same size as the other models and charges just as quickly with 65 watts via Warp Charge 65T. Only wireless charging is not on board and is reserved for the OnePlus 9/9 Pro.OnePlus 9RT 5G smartphone now available for just $599
