2021 is a tumultuous year for music player products; not only Shanling but many major brands are also affected. With the Shanling M6 and M6 Pro series, when it was replaced with the ESS chip because of the shortage of AKM. A few months ago, this problem happened with the M8. For now, you can still find the M8 in stock, but those will be the last M8s. From now on, the Shanling M8 player will stop production.
With the discontinuation of the M8, Shanling will take a step further than what it did with the M6 ??21 and M6 Pro 21. Instead of continuing to produce the M8 with the DAC chip from ESS, Shanling has released a new one. Completely new products, marking a new generation of music players, promising to bring a new breeze to their mobile products.
This high-end music player model will have huge design changes, making them stand out from its previous models. Along with that, Shanling M9 will be equipped with a higher quality screen, a 6-inch AMOLED screen at 2K resolution.
With the M9, Shanling will continue with the Android platform. By replacing the newer and more powerful chip, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 CPU and will be upgraded to Android 10, which will improve performance and compatibility with more applications in the future.
And the biggest question is which DAC chip will Shanling M9 use? This model will be developed around the AKM 4499 chip, which is a great chip if they go to waste. Therefore, Shanling decided to take the last remaining AK4499 DAC chips and use them for a limited edition of the M9.
They are still not sure how many units will be produced this time. And after this limited production, Shanling will replace another DAC chip for the M9. Shanling is expected to release the Shanling M9 later this fall.
