Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 Chip exposure: Cortex-X2 frequency dry to 3.09GHz

July 30, 2021, Foreign media wccftech reported that a source said that Qualcomm’s next flagship SoC will be called the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898. Previously, it was called SM8450, and as we get closer and closer to the end of 2021, more details have emerged.

Features of Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 Chip:

The whistleblower Ice Universe mentioned the new flagship SoC’s name and pointed out that the Cortex-X2 CPU will run at 3.09GHz. He claims to “see” the above clock frequency, which indicates that the Snapdragon 898 may be a sample tested on a prototype smartphone to see how high the CPU frequency is. The manufacturer can reach before braking to prevent the temperature from going to dangerous levels.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 Features

Considering that the Snapdragon 898 is expected to use Samsung’sSamsung’s 4nm process. This will bring the improvements in performance and energy efficiency are likely to become a reality. Just like the previous few times, Qualcomm may choose its custom Kryo 780 core based on the Cortex-X2 core to run at a clock frequency above 3.00GHz. At the same time, it is selecting a different CPU cluster. According to previous leaks, Snapdragon 898 will have the following configurations.

  • A Kryo 780 core based on Cortex-X2
  • Three Kryo 780 cores based on Cortex-A710
  • Two Kryo 780 cores based on Cortex-A510 (may run at a higher frequency)
  • A Two Kryo 780 cores based on Cortex-A510 (may run at a lower frequency)

The new manufacturing process should help Snapdragon 898 achieve new milestones. But Qualcomm has special plans for the “Plus” version. It may be mass-produced on TSMC’sTSMC’s 4nm node instead of Samsung’sSamsung’s node. Assuming that TSMC has a surplus in fulfilling Apple’sApple’s chip orders. Things may become exciting in the second half of 2022.

Qualcomm may officially release the Snapdragon 898 chip in December this year. And the first flagship smartphone is also expected to debut in 2021.
