Design: Stem or no stem?

The Redmi Airdots has an extremely lightweight and small charging case, which makes it easy to carry around in your pockets all day. The case has an elliptical shape and is smaller than your palm. It is made of high-quality plastic, and definitely has a snappy feel to it, especially due to the magnets that help keep the case shut so your earbuds don’t fall out.

The earbuds themselves are very light and small, so even if you wear them around for long hours, you probably won’t notice them after a few moments. They have the silicone-bud design that also helps with noise isolation, which is definitely a plus. You also get multiple bud sizes, so you don’t have to worry about the earbuds not fitting inside your ear as comfortably as you’d like. The earbuds lack any stem like the Airpods or the Xiaomi Airdots Pro, which makes it very inconspicuous to wear. The Redmi Airdots are also available in a single color, black, which might or might be the best color choice for some.

Xiaomi’s Airdots Pro, on the other hand, have a completely different design. If the Redmi Airdots can be called Galaxy Buds-inspired, the Airdots Pro are absolutely an Apple Airpods dupe. The Airdots Pro features a long stem just like the Airpods, and the white color of the earphones also makes it the perfect dupe. The Airdots Pro, however, do not have the in-ear style of the Airpods; instead, we get the same silicone bud shape like the Airdots, which, again, helps with noise isolation.

The AirDots Pro follows the footsteps of the Apple AirPods, while Redmi AirDots offers a new flavor to the TWS Market.

The case of the Airdots Pro is also very Airpods-inspired, although it has a more boxy feel to it. The lid is snappy and held in place by magnets, and when opened, the earphones can be dropped inside and secured in place by magnets just like you can with Airpods.

If you hate the admittedly funny-looking style of the stem earphones, the Redmi Airdots is definitely the choice for you. But if you can bear with them, the Airdots Pro are worth looking at, especially since the stem does have its pros – let’s find out what.

Sound Quality and Controls

Wireless earphones don’t generally sound the best, simply because they aren’t designed to. Most truly wireless earphones are designed with convenience and comfort in mind, especially when made by smartphone brands like Xiaomi. Keeping that in mind, it’s safe to say that between the Xiaomi AirDots Pro vs Redmi AirDots, both earphones have decent sound quality that is enough for day-to-day use. The earbuds design does allow noise reduction and isolation, which is impressive for a pair of earphones that are so cheap.

But while the audio quality is pretty similar and just good enough, the microphone audio quality differs significantly. This could be especially important to those who will primarily use these earphones for taking calls when outside. Due to the stem on the Airdots Pro, it is much better equipped to detect your voice than the Airdots are. Especially in crowded areas, this will matter.

Another major difference between both is the control options you get. The Redmi Airdots have a tactile button that you can press to control your audio. This could be the better option because, for example, if you’re adjusting the earbuds in your ears, you won’t accidentally pause or skip your music. With the Airdots Pro, on the other hand, you get touch controls, so you can tap twice to pause or play your music, amongst other things. This is very convenient and easy to use.

Battery Life and Connectivity

With the Redmi Airdots, you get Bluetooth 5.0, and automatic pairing with your phone every time you take the earbuds out of the case after the initial pairing process. The battery life is also decent. If you use both earbuds together, you can get up to 4 hours of listening time, and with just one earbud, you get around 5 hours. With the charging case, you can get 3-4 charges, which extends the listening time to over 12 hours. The case charges through Micro-USB, which is a little disappointing.

The Xiaomi Airdots Pro, on the other hand, features a USB-C port, which is definitely something to be thankful for. It has Bluetooth 4.2. But the most impressive feature of the earphones is its impressive battery life: you get a whopping 10 hours of listening time, which is nearly the best in the entire market. Even when you drain the battery, it only takes an hour in the charging case to be entirely juiced again.

Both earphones have a hassle-free pairing process – you just have to go to your Bluetooth options and choose the earphones from the list – even though there is no specific app or pop-up for an easier pairing. Once connected, you don’t need to repair it again. Just as soon as you take it out of the case, it will automatically reconnect to the phone, and switch off as soon as it is put back.

The Winner of AirDots Pro vs Redmi AirDots:

Between the Redmi Airdots vs the Xiaomi Airdots Pro, I would personally pick the Xiaomi AirDots Pro as the winner. The Airdots Pro have better microphone quality, a USB-C port, and excellent battery life, and a very compact design. Especially for its price, there’s no reason not to buy it. But if the stem design is really something you want to avoid, the Airdots are also an excellent pick at an extremely cheap deal.
