Xiaomi Redmi 1S, a 4-year old phone, is getting the MIUI 9 Update

Just a week back, we got the official list of 40 Xiaomi smartphones that are and will be getting the official MIUI 9 update. In that list, there were some old smartphones like the Mi 2, Redmi 1S, etc. that launched 3-4 years back. Now, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S has started receiving the MIUI 9 update but don’t expect too much with this update as the Android version remains the same and only some MIUI 9 features have been added to the device. Nevertheless, this is a great move by Xiaomi to provide updates to its really old phones, unlike some smartphone manufacturers who forget to update their old devices.

So, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S is getting the MIUI 9.2.2.0 update that brings all the latest features from the MIUI 9 to the Redmi 1S. These features like Split screen, dual apps, Quick Cards, App search, and a new UI.  Well, the phone has 1GB RAM and runs on Snapdragon 400 processor, so it is a wise move by the company to provide just the features to the phone and not the whole update.

It is also reported that users in India are getting some special holiday cards in the Calendar app with this new MIUI 9 update for the Xiaomi Redmi 1S. Also, one more thing to mention is that the phone is still on October 2016 security patch which is something that is not expected since it is necessary to provide at least the latest security patches to the phone that is getting a new update.
