Huawei to produce 1 million Ascend Mate 8 units per month, release date scheduled for December 9th
Huawei’s latest flagship phablet device has been all around the news lately, as it features quite elegant design aesthetics, as well as a rather powerful specifications sheet. Major online tech publications named the smartphone as the ‘Galaxy
Moreover, He Gang, head of Huawei’s smartphone division, has just announced that the much-touted phone will be finally rolled out to the Chinese market on December 9th, retailing for 2,999 CNY (roughly $470), off contract.
In addition to circulation, He Gang also mentioned that the company is quite confident about the Mate 8’s potential, hence it decided to produce a whopping one million units per month.
Overall, the Mate 8 constitutes Huawei’s hidden card against Apple’s success story in the Chinese market, since it is a fact that the second biggest iPhone consumer globally is indeed China.
The previous iteration – Mate 7 – managed to achieve a 7 million units sold benchmark, in exactly one year – the phone was launched in October of 2014 -, hence we don’t see why the Mate 8, a substantial upgrade over the previous installment, won’t secure a larger share of the smartphone market.
The particular competitive concept is part of Huawei’s wider new strategy, which is to escape the ‘cheap phone maker’ pigeonhole, and come face off with the big names of the discipline.
The collaboration with Google for the manufacturing of the Nexus 6P phablet was significantly conducive to the said pattern, as it is a great way to penetrate the high-end US and European smartphone market.
Circling back to pricing, as aforementioned, the Mate 8 starts from 2,999CNY for the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage edition, climbing all the way up to a 6,888CNY premium for the exclusive champagne edition of the smartphone.
