Xiaomi Air Purifier 2 Teardown

2

By the looks, the second generation of Xiaomi Purifier looks similar to the previous version, with small modifications. The dismantling process can start easily because we noticed that we have to start dismantling the casing from the bottom.

3

The process of dismantling is not easy. After the examination of the Purifier, we noticed that we can remove the rubber that was installed above the first screws, which we removed with the screwdriver.

4

Next, we remove the screws located in the four corners and one of those screws on the logo of Xiaomi. We opened the rear base cover and found a power supply. Next, we remove the filter part of the back cover and take out the filter element. Compared with the first generation of the filter cartridge, we see this filter as an improvement of the functionality.

5 After taking out the filter, we examine the construction of the plastic casing, and it functions as a whole because of many connection pins and buttons. After pressing the right buttons and removing the bolts, we were able to remove the plastic covers.

6

During this dismantle phase, we found the following part is still stuck, and it prevents us from removing the bezel cover completely.

7

The solution to this problem was in the bottom of the casing, where one button was reachable by the screwdriver.

8

After performing this method, we then took the rest of the bezel, pull the button in the process. We notice that Xiaomi Purifier 2 is very well built; without professional tools and careful practice, is almost impossible to remove the bezel.

9

Here’s the Xiaomi Air Purifier 2 stripped naked and exposed in front of us, and we will be at the cleaner head, was placed on the fan side, to continue the dismantling work.

10

Now we untie the Purifier button near the top, remove the fan outside of the protective cover.

11

And now we can see the fan. The fan is big, providing a substantial power to the air flow. There is another fan inside, as Xiaomi uses a “double-leaf” system of fans.

12

We turn the filter upside down and continue our operation. We are ready to remove the power supply and the board at the bottom; separating this section from the Purifier as a whole.

13

We use a screwdriver to remove the four corner screws on the power supply and open the metal plates. But on the power supply line is still connected with the Purifier; there is no way to remove the metal plate completely.

14

To deal with the power supply board, we remove the screw on the power supply.

15

Next, we remove the power supply connected to the Purifier by unplugging the internal cable. Now we took out the power.

16

After power is removed, we will carry the power out of the plastic and metal plates.

17

We found a small box; it had only one screw, so we removed the bolts.

We take out the plastic box and metal boards used to hold the power after the power is extracted. Even without the metal board, it still feels quite heavy. The Xiaomi Air Purifier 2 exterior is made completely of plastic, but the interior still consists mainly of metal materials.
18 From the side of Xiaomi Purifier, you can notice a small box that is fixed with one screw. We remove it.
19 After we remove the screw, we can access the device for sensing humidity, although it is so small, function of it is imperative.
20 Next to the sensor, we can find a Purifier Groove cable; this should be connected to the Purifier motherboard. Cable in Groove is placed tight, so without putting lots of effort in it, we will be able to take it out from the Purifier.
21 Next part is located on the filter motherboard
22Since now we can see a motherboard completely, you can see that Xiaomi Purifier motherboard and the one for smart devices such as computers are similar in structure.
23Here you can see the controller that should be connected to the motherboard by a cable.
24 This is the control chip connected to the motherboard.
25By looking at it, we can see that only two cables are connected to the motherboard.
26 We can take out the motherboard after we remove the screws from it. You can see that Sockets solder joints on the motherboard look massive!
27 Now we have to deal with the Purifier’s outer frame, turn the filter upside down, then remove the screws at the top of it.
28After removing the screws, we remove the top square border, push it down, and we notice there is a plastic frame, which is quite firm.
29After the frame is padded on the right place, we start removing those four ingots one by one.
30Now we can see four ingots in their full size.
31As mentioned before Xiaomi Purifier is a stand-alone dual fan structure so what we can see here is only a fan.
32After the turn of the filter upside down, we can see another fan.
33While we are working on it, simultaneously we remove the fan guard. It seems that this is fixed tight, so it can take up to two people to take out the fan guard.34

We remove the four side holders and the panel together. The disassembled parts are put aside.

35

Finally, we can remove the screws from the fan.

36

The fan is removed and separated from other elements. The fan technology used by Xiaomi is “double-leaf”.

37

We remove the screw of the fan axis. Caution – the screw is octagonal; we spent a lot of time getting the particular piece of equipment for this bolt. The screw is finally removed with the combined effort of three different tools.

38

We remove the blades.

39

Now we deal with the fan motor compartment, which is assembled and put together with three different types of screws. A lot of patience and effort is put in this sequence.

40

In the end, we finally got to see the core – the motor.

The teardown process took a significant effort to complete, and about two hours as well.

After the initial dismantling phase – removing the plastic casing, the inner structure of Xiaomi Air Purifier 2 is made of metal. There are no cheap materials, and there are no cut corners in the building process as people think. Next, the inner wiring and board work is complexly made. For the 699 Yuan you can buy great workmanship and own the quality air purifier for Xiaomi.
