CTO of Meizu talks to TechCrunch; believes their phone design is better than Xiaomi

Meizu is definitely a Chinese smartphone brand that is a force to watch out for. During the Innovation Summit which was held on November 3, Li Nan, the Vice President of the company spoke to TechCrunch on how Meizu already has 20 million smartphone sales under its belt, with half of them coming from the company’s Blue Charm Metal handset.

The executive also spoke to a German market research company and told them that during Q2, 2015, smartphone sales fell by 10 percent but surprisingly, sales of Meizu devices grew to an impressive 540 percent in the first half, and another 85 percent during the third quarter of the same year. This is thanks to the company targeting a variety of pricing segments. With its PRO 5, MX5 and Blue Charm Metal, the company is able to attract the attention of nearly all consumers.

Meizu PRO 5 is the company’s current flagship smartphone and is running Samsung’s Exynos 7420 chipset, and costs far less than Galaxy Note 5. The company is also planning on releasing a cheaper variant of the same smartphone, but it will be running MediaTek’s Helio X20 and is going to be named PRO 5 mini. Once again, in comparison to the other flagship smartphones, PRO 5 mini is going to be much cheaper and will deliver performance that will definitely exceed Exynos 7420.

meizu once more

In addition, Li Nan has also stated that thanks to the partnership with e-commerce giant Ali Baba and Meizu, more consumers are given the opportunity to experience powerful Android smartphones in an affordable price tag. The Chinese company is following in the footsteps of Xiaomi, whose low-margin business model has allowed it to become the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. The company’s executive also took a hit at Xiaomi, stating that the latter’s design was inferior to Meizu’s.

While we are not too sure what consumers think, but fact is that Meizu and are and definitely going to become bitter smartphone rivals in the near future.
