Xiaomi whipped up a pleasant surprise earlier today, as the company quietly rolled out an update to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for some users.

Aside from Android 5.1.1, Xiaomi’s update also includes a new upgrade for the MIUI user experience, bumping the UX version up to 5.9.21.  The update weighs in at a rather hefty 758 MB, which means you’re going to have to set aside a good amount of time (and storage space) in order to install the updated on your device.  However, there’s a catch to this new update that all Xiaomi Mi Note Pro users have to be aware of.

The catch, as it turns out, is that the new software is merely a beta version – only select users will be able to receive this file.  That means the software may still be buggy, and problems can definitely be expected, as is the case with most beta versions.  Still, there’s a good chance a stable version may soon be released to the public; we don’t know when this will take place, but it should take place sooner rather than later.  And, as with other Android upgrades, the rollout will likely take place in stages, and may take a few weeks at the most for everyone to receive it.

The Xiaomi Mi Note Pro, as a reminder, was released in the spring of 2015, and comes with a 5.7-inch, 2560 x 1440 QHD display.  It is powered by an eight-core Snapdragon 810 processor and 4 GB RAM, comes with 64 GB internal memory, and has a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization and autofocus, and a 4-megapixel front camera. The device currently sells for $520.19 on
