$35 CX-X3 Android media box is the cheapest 4K Android TV box

The latest Android Media box from Geekbuying is a very bang for your buck deal. This Android Media box is like any other conventional streaming machine, hook it up to your TV, stream content and done, hassle free and optimizes for your viewing pleasure.

This media box isn’t just like any other media box though, this device runs Remix OS, another distribution of Linux, and an alternative to Android that was last seen on one of the “Microsoft Surface-like tablets” that a new startup created. The CX-X3 is also capable of 4K playback, assuming you have a monitor or TV that supports up to 4K resolution (3840 x 2160.) Even though the media box can handle up to 4K support while most media players only support up to 1080p, it may be quite difficult to find 4K content to stream, unless you are watching 4K videos on YouTube or if Netflix/Hulu allows for 4K resolution videos/movies.

Let’s run through the specifications of the CX-X3 Media Box. First off, powering the CX-X3 is the ALLWinner Tech Quad-Core H3 Chipset which claims to deliver up to 3 times more performance than conventional “Quad-Core” Chipsets. Along with the H3 CPU, there’s a Mali-T400MP2 Graphics core @600MHz to handle all your graphic intensive applications.

For memory and storage, there is 8GB of internal storage (with MicroSD support and 2USB ports for your removable media) as well as 1GB of DDR3L RAM.

The device runs Android 4.4.4 out of the box, but the manufacturer claims you can upgrade the operating system through OTA/Wifi to Remix OS. The device has an HDMI out interface to connect to your TV, as well as an ethernet port, a 5V DC Power outlet and an optional AV/OUT port. As mentioned before, there’s a MicroSD slot, as well as 2 full sized USB 2.0 ports.

The media box can support up to 4K resolution at 30fps, which is 4x sharper image quality than standard 1080p. It also supports H.256 (HEVC) to improve data compression 2x better than traditional H.246.
