New Leaks Claim Xiaomi’s Mi 5 Plus Will Have 2K Display

We’ve already read reports about some of the expected features and hardware specifications that Xiaomi’s next generation flagship phones, the Mi 5 and the Mi 5 Plus might ship with later this year. The Mi5 of course, will be a much anticipated upgrade from the Mi4, which was released last year by Xiaomi.

According to the source of those earlier reports, the display on the Mi 5 will increase ever so slightly from 5-inches found on the Mi 4, to 5.2-inches this time around, although, the resolution will reportedly continue to remain at 1080p. That same report had also claimed the Mi 5 Plus will come with a 6-inch screen, but it too was said to be of the Full HD 1080p variety.

Now however, new reports emanating out of China seem to indicate that the Mi 5 Plus will come with a 2K screen, along with a bezel-less design. The device is also slated to become the very first device to be powered by Qualcomm’s next generation flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 820.

Recounting what we already know about the device from our previous leaks, the gadget is slated to come with a full metal body, and will support built-in fingerprint scanner. While it still isn’t clear whether it will ship with Qualcomm’s upcoming 3D Sense ID or a 2D capacitive scanner like the ones currently found in HTC and Apple (Touch ID). We also know the phone will ship with 4 GB RAM, and a 16 MP rear camera with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization).

All of this leads one to believe that Xiaomi is working towards introducing more features in an attempt to move towards the high-end. The phone will probably be positioned higher than the Mi Note 2 which is also rumored to be launched later this year or early next. While the device will likely be more expensive than 2,999 Yuan, it remains to be seen whether it will breach the 4000 Yuan mark.
