Apple iPhone 6s Rumored To Come With Force Touch And 7000 Series Aluminum

Remember ‘Bendgate’? Yes, the infamously curious case of the iPhone bending in people’s pockets, which had Apple extremely concerned about the bad press it generated for the company. Now, KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is claiming that he has some inside information on the next-generation Apple iPhone 6s, which is a direct fallout of the bendgate episode.

According to him, to prevent future recurrence of such incidents, Apple will introduce 7000 series Aluminum alloy material for use on the next-generation Apple iPhone 6s. 7000 series are alloyed with zinc, and can be precipitation hardened to the highest strengths of any aluminum alloy. The material is already said to be used by Apple to build the Apple Watch. The alloy reportedly has 60% higher tensile strength than natural pure Aluminum, (up to 700 MPa for the 7068 alloy) and is only one-third the density of stainless steel, meaning it will still be lightweight enough, and won’t add too much extra weight to the device.

The new-generation iPhones will also reportedly support Force Touch, a feature adopted from the Apple Watch as well. There will however, be one major compromise, according to the source. He says that while the new material won’t be adding any heft to the device, it will add a little bit to the dimensions of the upcoming phone. The length and width will both increase by a miniscule 0.15 mm and the thickness will increase by 0.2 mm, but mostly on account of Force Touch, rather than on account of the new construction material.

It’s pretty evident however, that such increases are just a technicality, and won’t really mean anything in the real world, in terms of usability of the device(s). With the change in material meanwhile, Mr. Ming-Chi Kuo believes, Apple will be able to offer new, more vibrant colors for its next generation phones, including a Rose Gold version like the Apple Watch.
