Xiaomi Smartwatch: August 30 Release & Specs

Xiaomi smartwatchXiaomi has decided to jump aboard the smartwatch bandwagon with its all new Xiaomi smartwatch. It is said that the new Xiaomi smartwatch will be officially released on August 30th, and whether it will carry the Redmi brand name or not remains to be seen. Essentially as long as we know that Xiaomi is behind this smartwatch, one can be assured that it should offer a decent mix of performance and value without compromising on style.

Xiaomi Smartwatch To Measure Up?

Not only that, this upcoming Xiaomi smartwatch will not arrive in a square form factor, but rather, it will adopt the rounded approach that is seen on the Motorola 360 and Samsung Gear S2 smartwatches. This makes the visual transition easier for new owners, and we would be bold enough to go out on a limb and venture a guess that the Xiaomi smartwatch will have special apps to help it work best with Xiaomi smartphones.

Apart from the circular dial, it will allegedly sport a plastic strap, accompanied by Bluetooth connectivity (a must!), a heart rate monitor to help it keep up with its rivals in the market, GPS support, a weather app and up to 5 days of battery life. This should be more than enough for the ordinary person, although we suspect that the busy executive will need to charge it up mid-week.

Since it is a China-made device that will see plenty of action in its home market, you can be sure that Alipay cashless payment support is integral to its potential success. To cap it all off, the Xiaomi smartwatch will come with an intelligent notification reminder, waterproof capability (although you should not bring this with you on your diving trips), and a quick-release strap design that allows you to be fashionably versatile depending on the mood and occasion.

Xiaomi has lost some of its lustre in the smartphone market, going to show just how fast sentiments can change among consumers. In fact, it is predicted to lose market share to domestic rivals Huawei, Vivo and Oppo this year, which is why Xiaomi has tied up with China Mobile to release handsets with the carrier. Hopefully the new Xiaomi smartwatch will be able to help the company diversify its portfolio of offerings, which will include household appliances such as an automated robotic vacuum cleaner.

There is no word on pricing just yet, but we would not be surprised if it were to be priced slightly lower than the more established brand names out there.
