The term doppelgänger is usually used in people related context, and it is utilized to describe any person that physically resembles another person. This time by doppelgänger we are referring to a tablet that highly resembles another tablet. If you wish to copy from someone, copy from the best in business. Onda V919 Air looks gorgeous in every possible way, and the build quality is definitively above average. Naturally, iPad Air is far better regarding the build quality since it’s made out of premium-grade materials but its quality comes with a cost. Unfortunately, this tablet comes only in gold color, and that can be a problem for some users.
The good thing is that color of gold suits it well and adds to that premium look that they strive for in a device. With only 8mm in thickness and weight of only 450 grams, we can say that this is one classy looking tablet. he first thing you notice on the front side is 9.7-Inch Retina display with an unusual aspect ratio of 4:3. There is a camera on the bezel above and a Windows logo on a bezel bellow the screen.
On the back of the Onda V919 Air, there is a large back plate made out of metal, and lower and upper part of the tablet are made out of plastic and painted gold. Logo of the company is printed around the middle. Speaker resides on the lower right part of the back while the camera rests in the middle of the upper part. The camera is protruded a bit, and that can potentially cause damage to the lens if you don’t put your device in some protective cover.
On the right side, there are power and volume buttons and slot for micro SD expansion bellow them. Buttons are made out of plastic, but it seems that they are built to last. The top of the device houses a micro USB charging port, 3.5mm audio jack, HDMI port for connecting to a bigger display and a microphone.
The device looks excellent considering that it is a clone of another tablet and the build quality, although above average, is not on par with the best offering of the Cupertino giant.
Onda V919 Air comes with a 9.7-Inch Capacitive display made in IGZO technology and resolution of 2048×1536 pixels. It results in 264ppi which earned it the nickname Retina, just like the Apple made one. Colors are vivid enough, and the viewing angles are very good indeed. It is made in unorthodox aspect ratio by today’s standards, so you need to keep in mind that a lot of apps and games will look awkward on it. Also, watching a video on this screen is not that great because movies are made for wide screens and not for the 4:3 aspect ratio. The screen is very useful for browsing because of its size and the resolution. The best thing about this display is its resolution because it exceeds its price range.
There are no extra protective layers on the screen so you will need to take extra care of it.
Processor and RAM
Onda V919 Air comes with Intel’s Bay Trail 64-Bit Quad-Core processor, built on 22nm process and clocked up to 2.16GHz. GPU in this device is famous Intel’s HD Graphics 7th generation. It is not Intel’s best offering, but you will not have to worry because there is a lot of horsepower under the hood of this beast. When you combine this SOC with 2GB of fast RAM, you get one powerful little tablet capable of running graphic intense games, Ultra HD videos as well as everyday tasks without a sweat.
SOC built on a 22nm process ensures exceptional performance and better battery life than its predecessors.
Onda V919 Air Camera
When you try to build a great device that doesn’t cost much you need to cut back on something, this time, the camera took the biggest punch. The device is equipped with 2-Megapixel resolution sensors on both cameras, and the results are, as we expected, not that good. Pictures taken lack the details; dynamic range is not okay, and the whole experience is quite buggy. Of course, the resolution of the photos is not on par with the competing devices, and that just takes away points in the camera department. The camera can be useful for conference calls, but it struggles with them occasionally. Considering everything, this is not the device to buy if you tend to use it as a digital camera.
The device comes with 32GB of built-in storage, and it is equally divided between both operating systems. Naturally, many people use tablets for multimedia and fun, so they tend to fill it up with movies, games and such. For those of you who think that 32GB is not enough, there is another version of the tablet that offers 64GB of built-in storage. Of course, you can expand this amount of storage with the insertion of micro SD card that goes up to 128GB, and that should be plenty enough for all of your needs.
Operating System (OS)
Probably the best thing about this device, besides the price and great internals, is the dual boot option. When you power the Onda V919 Air on, you have the ability to choose the OS you want to run, whether it is an Android Lollipop or a Windows 10. Of course, you can switch between two OSs on the fly; you just need to turn off the device, turn it back on and choose another OS. Both operating systems have advantages over another and, at the end of the day, it depends on what you like more. You can install apps and games from the Google play (or any other) store for Android OS, as well as Microsoft store for Windows 10 OS. We haven’t encountered any lag or slowdowns in any OS, and the experience was smooth and stable.
Onda V919 Air doesn’t have a slot for SIM cards so you will not be able to use it as a phone but you can connect to the Internet via built-in Wi-Fi modem. Wi-Fi protocols supported are 802.11 b/g/n which is more than enough for unobstructed web surfing.
Bluetooth is supported on this device and with version 4.0 it offers faster transfer speeds while sparing the battery life in the process.
You can connect to your PC via a micro USB cable and transfer files between these devices.
Another good connectivity option is the HDMI port, and you can use it to watch up to 4K videos on your TV or monitor.
Onda V919 Air Battery life
The device comes with a 7200mAh lithium-ion built-in battery. Because of the 22nm process that CPU is built on battery life is significantly extended and you can use the device for hours at a time. In case you are an avid gamer and you drain the battery quicker no need to worry because device comes with a 2500mAh charger and it will replenish the battery quite fast.
Pros and Cons

- Solid battery life
- HDMI port
- Dual boot between Android and Windows 10 OS
- Great display

Onda V919 Air is a blatant clone of the iPad Air, and that is a fact. Besides the obvious similarities on the exterior, Onda’s tablet is another story entirely. Is it any good? Sure it is. You can’t get these specs and the ability to use two OSs for this amount of money. The camera is not its selling point obviously, but they had to save on something. Bottom line is that you get enough fun considering the money invested in this device.
